Professor Shivam Kushwaha is an Assistant Professor and the Head of the Department of Mining Engineering at the NRI Institute of Research and Technology. He holds a BE degree from AKS University. Professor Kushwaha also has four years of work experience in total.

Being the faculty of engineering department, what are your roles, and responsibilities towards the students?

Our primary roles involve teaching and guiding students in their academic and career pursuits. I need to perform these responsibilities in order to get them to know about their domain and lead them in order to help them achieve their targets in life. Along with this, I also work at contributing to research and administrative tasks as needed.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

For students, I try to establish healthy relationships by being approachable. I try to show genuine interest in their learning, provide constructive feedback, and offer academic support when they need it. For my fellow faculty, I collaborate on research projects and participate with them in departmental activities. I believe in communicating openly to build trust and camaraderie.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make in industry-oriented?

To make subjects industry-oriented, we use real-world examples and case studies. We also invite guest speakers and introduce practical projects. This helps our students stay updated with industry trends. Moreover, by fostering partnerships with local companies we are able to provide them with the latest trends and developments in their field. This will help them to adapt themselves to modern-day technology and industry problems.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in outside word?

We support our students in coping with high competition by offering mentorships with renowned people. We send them to various industries for internships and projects. We also provide career guidance, and access to resources like special talks, networking events, and skill development programs to enhance their employability.

Do you have any extracurricular activities /programs to enhance the skills of students or expose them to real-world challenges?

We do offer numerous extracurricular activities throughout the academic year. We have clubs, competitions, internships, and workshops to enhance student skills and expose them to real-world challenges. It creates leadership and communication skills and boosts the confidence of the students, which eventually helps them achieve their goals.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

To have a prosperous career, students should focus on continuous learning. Adaptability, networking, and seeking internships or co-op opportunities are also extremely important to gain practical experience in their field of interest.
