Dr. Raj Kumar is the Head of the Department of IT at the Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute Of Management And Information Technology. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications, which he followed up with a Master’s in Computer Applications. Thereafter, he earned a PhD to further his educational knowledge. Dr. Kumar also has completed the prestigious DOEACC - A Level Course, equivalent to a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA).

Throughout my professional journey, I have held key positions at various educational institutes, and my connection to the education sector is fueled by a profound sense of purpose and passion. Education provides me with the opportunity to make a positive impact on lives, empower individuals through knowledge, and contribute to the betterment of society. Engaging with students and colleagues in a culture of continuous learning keeps me intellectually stimulated, while the joy of teaching and witnessing students' growth brings me unparalleled fulfillment. Being part of the education sector allows me to shape a brighter future and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

My philosophy of leadership centers on transparent communication with both students and fellow colleagues. I firmly believe in fostering an open and honest environment where ideas and feedback are freely exchanged. By maintaining transparent communication, I ensure that everyone feels heard and valued, which ultimately leads to a more cohesive and collaborative educational community.

As for my leadership style, I prefer to lead from the front and guide from the front. This means that I actively engage with the students and colleagues, leading by example and demonstrating the values and principles I uphold. By being hands-on and approachable, I can effectively understand the needs and challenges of those I lead, while providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals and aspirations. Through this style of leadership, I aim to inspire and empower others to reach their full potential and contribute to the overall success of the educational institution.

What are the most important functions in the role that you play in your institute?

In my role at the institute, several functions are of utmost importance to ensure effective management and a positive learning environment. As the head of the IT department, I oversee the implementation and maintenance of technology infrastructure and services. This involves managing computer systems, networks, software, and providing technical support to students and staff. Promoting a safe and respectful campus environment is a top priority. As the head of the Anti-Ragging Committee, I am responsible for preventing and addressing any incidents of ragging or harassment, ensuring the well-being and security of students, and fostering a culture of tolerance and inclusivity.

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department plays a significant role in integrating technology into the teaching and learning process. Overseeing the admissions process is critical for attracting and enrolling qualified students. As the head of the Admissions Department, I work to streamline the admissions procedures, uphold admission standards, and maintain clear communication with prospective students to facilitate a seamless enrollment experience.

Any suggestions/messages that you would like to give to the current youth?

Self-belief is the foundation of achieving greatness. Trust in your abilities and potential. Embrace your strengths and acknowledge your areas for growth. Confidence in yourself will help you overcome challenges and reach new heights. Success is not solely about working hard; it's also about working smart. Be dedicated and committed to your goals, but also be strategic in your approach. Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and find innovative solutions to problems. 

Stay focused on your aspirations and dreams. Define clear goals and set a roadmap to achieve them. Distractions may come your way, but with determination and perseverance, you can stay on course and accomplish what you set out to do.
