Dr. Ashish Malik is currently working as the Director of the Axis Institute of Technology and Management (Kanpur, India). He has been a very committed and unwavering leader towards the technological advancement of numerous reputed educational institutes that have been truly exemplary. Besides having an illustrious educational background, Dr. Malik has exceptional hands-on experience in budget planning and management of various putative universities.

Dr. Malik’s unparalleled efforts towards the betterment of technical education across the nation are vibrantly reflected on the pages of the Indian Society for Technical Education. He has become a lifetime member of the Indian Society for Technical Education and also holds a prominent place in the Institute of Engineers (India) as a Chartered Engineer. Apart from this, he has been the Secretary-General of the Solar Energy Society of India for 2019 and 2020 and has now become a lifetime member of the same. With a remarkable contribution and achievement in the education industry, Dr. Malik has obtained an ELITE Certificate in NPTEL courses of Effective Engineering Teaching in Practice and Outcome-based Pedagogic Principles for Effective Teaching in 2018.

Dr. Malik has also been honoured with various accolades for his endeavours including the Award for Distinguished Professor in Gurukul RACE India- the Best Faculty Award in ABES Engineering College in 2009, the Directors’ Improved Teaching Performance Award in ABES Engineering College in 2008-09, 2009-10, 2011-12 and 2012-13, Directors’ Award for Research Work Oriented Faculty in ABES Engineering College in 2012-13. He has also achieved the Best Technical Paper in ISTE sponsored national conference at IDEA 2009 in BGIET, Sangrur. Besides being a distinguished professor, he is also an inordinate writer. He has nine publications in his area of specialisation in reputed journals.

You've had significant roles within education institutions over your career. What aspects of the education sector resonate with you, and what drew you to it originally? 

My bond with the education sector is deeply rooted in my belief in nurturing students' holistic development. It's not just about imparting knowledge but also about fostering personal growth. Additionally, the constant evolution and integration of technology in education have kept me engaged and intrigued. The mutual respect between educators and students within this noble profession has been a driving force for my continued dedication. What initially attracted me to education was its inherent nobility and the potential it holds for positive societal change. Witnessing students embark on successful careers and create opportunities for others brings me immense joy and fulfilment.

As Director at Axis Colleges, what guiding principles shape your leadership style? 

In my approach to leadership, I prioritise being strategic, inspirational, and motivational. Central to my leadership philosophy is the cultivation of teamwork. I believe in inspiring and empowering every member of the team to strive for excellence and collectively achieve our goals. It's crucial to foster a sense of unity and collaboration across all departments, including management, staff, and students. Leading by example is fundamental to me; I don't just delegate tasks but actively participate in them alongside my team. By doing so, I aim to instill a sense of shared purpose and accountability, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

What do you see as your primary roles and responsibilities towards Axis Colleges and its students? 

My foremost responsibility is to steer the college towards its envisioned future. This involves creating an atmosphere conducive to the growth and development of both faculty and students. I see myself as a motivator, encouraging and facilitating research and innovation among both groups. Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to the overall progress of the institution and the personal development of our students.
