What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Passion is the key motivating factor that actually makes me so connected. Passion is indispensable for learning and teaching facilitates learning through the desire and enthusiasm it creates. After being in the field of education for more than 17 years, I believe that the Whole Child Education approach is a comprehensive and progressive method of education that can give a totally new and different meaning and thrust to the teaching-learning process by changing and reframing the policies and methodologies. Therefore, understanding that every child deserves to be healthy, happy and safe, engaged, supported and encouraged, challenged and empowered is the prerequisite for realizing the whole child education philosophy.

Being the Chairman & MD of Axis College, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

Change is playing an ever-increasing role in many organizations and the education sector in turn demands a change-oriented work environment too. So we can say that the decent balance between the two management styles transformational leadership and participative leadership is well suited to the present scenario. Leading through examples, inspiration, and engagement I always seek ways to get the best performance and potential out of each team member, and at the same time, I cultivate participation, empower team members, and work directly alongside organizational members at every level.

Being the Chairman of Axis College, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

I always value-creating team building and strengthening a healthy and conducive environment for teachers and students. As far as marketing is concerned, in today’s digital world, traditional marketing strategies are no longer suitable for targeting younger demographics. Educational institutions must embrace digital channels if they want to convey their message to a large audience in a cost-effective manner. Such channels include email, web content, social media, and others.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute/ university/ school?

Apart from being an Institution of Higher Learning, our college is a center for the development of human potential. A holistic approach to education is adopted which emphasizes the development of an all-round and well-balanced personality of the students, and also to develop all dimensions of the human intellect so that our students help make our nation a more democratic, cohesive, socially responsible, culturally rich, and intellectually competitive nation.

Any insights into how your Institutes could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

I consider it as part of my responsibility to address the learning needs of all of the students irrespective of different races or economic backgrounds and cultivate a learning environment where all students are treated equitably, have equal access to learning, and feel welcome, valued and supported in their learning .

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the Institutes and the students are?

My Roles and responsibilities include Shaping a vision of academic success for all students, one based on high standards, Creating a congenial environment to education in order that safety, a cooperative spirit and healthy interaction prevail, Nurturing leadership in others so that teachers and other staff members assume their parts in realizing the vision, Conducting faculty development programs to enable teachers to teach at their best and students to learn to their utmost, and managing people, data and processes to cultivate overall improvement of the college.

What do you think should be the Institute's top priority over the next 10 years?

The college seeks to provide the students with a learning that aims to empower them to find the best of both cultural and material achievements. The college also aims to carry the torch of knowledge to the extreme edges where higher education is yet to blossom. With concerted efforts, we are committed to awakening youth to “Learn, Discover, Share, and Create” and make the world a better place, to become thoughtful and help them discover their talent and abilities. Sharing knowledge and experiences, creating opportunities, and enabling them to realize their dreams is our mission.

When you first came to Axis College, what was your vision for the College? Has it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

I joined the institution 10 years ago as a faculty member in the Dept. of Economics and took charge as Principal in March 2016. During four years, I have introduced two undergraduate courses namely - B.Sc. & B.Com Hons. Besides, we have also applied for an Integrated B.Ed. course which is expected in the next year. Making this college a reliable and responsible center of higher studies is my top priority, where we try to cater to the needs of all sections of society in the most conducive environment with the most affordable fee structure. The enrolment of students is increasing at the rate of 10% every year which gives us motivation to aspire high in terms of spreading our wings.

What would you like people to know about your Institutes they may not know?

Axis College focuses on experiential learning, that is learning and experience outside the classroom. Few courses provide internship opportunities and students even work with professors on research projects. The college has a unique culture of engaging students in extracurricular activities along with academic events and studies en masse.
