Dr. B. Shailaja is the Head of the Department at Allum Karibasappa Institute of Management. She holds an MBA and a PhD in Human Resources from Rayalaseema University. She has a book published and over 15 papers published in reputed journals and magazines. Besides academics, she also supervises PhD candidates. Dr. Shailaja holds ten years of experience in research, eleven in teaching, and five years working in the industry.

What is the latest program that you are offering in your institute/dept. which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?

AKIM is among the fastest-growing institutions providing quality management Education in Karnataka State. The Master of Business Administration degree offered by AKIM is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated with Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari. Additionally, we have full-fledged faculties according to the norms of AICTE and UGC. Every year we take around 60 students from all backgrounds.

Apart from the course curriculum, we also have additional courses. We have value-added programs like Advanced Excel, Digital Analytics, and Data Science. We also offer courses according to corporate requirements. This is how we are functioning in our MBA programme.

In 1998, AKIM ventured into shaping and training bright, young minds in high-quality management education to meet the managerial leadership needs of the country in a fast-changing environment. They started offering a two-year full-time programme MBA with the vision of developing critical analysis skills, equipping them with the skills needed for facing global challenges with a team and developing essential human values and cultural ethics.

How do you tend to build an industry connect with this program?

We don’t have on-campus placements as our student population is very low. So we send our students to companies by connecting with HR. We understand what their requirements are and what type of students they are looking for. While initial rounds of interviews take place through telephone the final rounds take place at the recruiter’s office. This has worked out for us and our placement has gone from 60% to 100%.

What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?

The plan that we have for our present batches is to train them in the first semester of the MBA program. Most of our students are from rural areas and struggle with language. So we provide English communication classes that can help them with their interview process. We also enlist the help of corporate trainers to teach the students soft skills, how to interview and how to land the job of their dreams.
