Dr. V. D. Sundar is the HOD-Pharmaceutical Technology at GIET School of Pharmacy. A qualified pharmacist with an overall experience of 24 years in Teaching/Research in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He has pursued graduation in B. Pharm from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, and M. Pharm (Industrial Pharmacy) from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University, Hyderabad. He has provided Research guidance as a Ph.D. Co-guide to two students and has guided thirty-five Postgraduate thesis and nineteen Undergraduate projects. He has attended many conferences and has published many patents and book chapters.

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector? 

Education is a profession where we can see the impact that you are having on the world around you. It provides equal access to education, and a great exchange of experience between teachers, inhibits constant learning, and needs to upskill for the current trends in the education sector. 


Being the HOD of GIET School of Pharmacy, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

A leadership philosophy is a set of beliefs, values, and principles that strongly influence how we interpret reality and guide our understanding of influencing humans. Supports creating a positive work culture and promotes collaboration, inclusivity, and accountability for achieving our collective goals. Positive feedback is one of the best ways to be a leader where one can motivate the team to work harder toward individual and team goals. 


The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute? 

The education at our institute has its strengths which emphasizes education abroad, such as producing highly qualified professionals in the fields of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. We had a rigid curriculum and unlimited exposure to interdisciplinary fields.

What do you think should be the Institute's top priority over the next 5 years? 

Establish a framework for pharmacy transformation and change that incorporates professional identity formation to help develop a professional mindset and leadership among faculty, learners, and preceptors for an evolving pharmacy workforce. Facilitate the sharing of resources and models of change and transformation among pharmacy colleges. Engage with other health professions associations and patient advocacy organizations to advocate for the value proposition for the pharmacy profession and how patient-centered pharmacy practice fulfills their needs. 


What do you see as your Institute's greatest strengths? 

Well-trained, research-oriented, experienced, dedicated, and energetic teaching faculty. Experienced faculty with Ph.D. degrees. Good teaching and learning environment supported by the prolific library. Publications in Research Journals like Scopus, Web of Science, and Elsevier. What would you like people to know about your college that they may not know?

Any message you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?
