This year, IITs have received over 1,91,000 applications for admission to approximately 17,385 seats through JEE Advanced 2024. This makes the students-to-seat ratio at IIT to be 11:1. Out of the total seats, IITs will reserve 20% seats under the female-supernumerary quota. Usually the gender ratio in JEE Advanced exams is 65% boys to 35% girls.

According to the IIT Madras guidelines for IIT Admission through JEE Advanced 2024, students must satisfy one of the below conditions:

Condition 1: Candidates seeking admission in IIT must pass their class 12th board exam with minimum five subjects and 75% aggregate marks. While, the class 12th percentage requirement for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates is 65% aggregate marks.

Or,

Condition 2: Candidates seeking IIT admission must pass class 12th board exam with minimum five subjects and fall within the top 20 percentile of their category of successful candidates in class 12th.

The authorities will include all the mandatory subjects n calculating class 12th score in a single academic year. Therefore, candidates are advised to improve their aggregate marks in the board examinations in one or more subjects or target to be within the top 20 percentile.

The subjects considered to calculate the marks and cutoff to meet the top 20 percentile are Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, a language (if one or more language is there, one with higher marks will be considered), and any one other subject.

Apart from this, the maximum attempt limit for JEE Advanced 2024, is two consecutive years. Suppose, a candidate who appeared for JEE Advanced 2023 is eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2024. However, a student who appeared in JEE Advanced 2022 is not eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2024.

What to do incase of less than 75% in Class 12 Boards?

Those candidates who have less than 75% in their class 12 exam can improve their score through revaluation or improvement exams. Many boards provide such opportunities of improvement exam to improve class 12th scores. However, if your board does not allow for revaluation or improvement, then you can enroll in the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) or take a gap year and reappear in the JEE Advanced exam next year.
