LPU's B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering offers a decent scholarship system and a sprawling campus, but historically, the placement opportunities for mechanical branches are limited compared to the tech-heavy placements for B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering at UPES. While LPU's fees are around ?69,000 per semester, UPES also provides good scholarship options, although I found their campus employment opportunities lacking. Given the current tech-driven job market, UPES seems like the smarter financial choice for a better return on investment, especially if you're inclined towards computer science. If you’re passionate about mechanical engineering and don’t mind a tougher job market, LPU could still be a viable option.Read more

Ques. Is Nirma University or UPES, Dehradun, better for a B.Tech?

Ans. UPES Dehradun does not have a good enough reputation as it does not appear anywhere in the national rankings. On the other hand, Nirma University ranks among the top institutes. It is often in the top 50 best colleges in the country. It is one of the best in Gujarat and is also on equal footing with most of the NITs. If you want to pursue CSE at Nirma University, the placements offers will be lucrative. The packages can go as high as INR 18 LPA. There are also tons of activities organized by the university which take place every now and then. You can participate in those for honing your skills. A friend of mine used to be a student of Nirma University and he came across a few students of UPES Dehradun while he was doing an internship. From what he gathered, he thinks the institute is not up to the mark and leaves a lot to be desired. UPES Dehradun focuses more on technological knowledge. You can opt for Nirma University for B.Tech without any second thought. The university offers great industrial exposure for the course.Read more

Ans. One of my cousins is a recent graduate from Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) and mentions that the department of Civil engineering is among the oldest departments of all. Here are some factors that you should know about it. Alongside the newer faculty members, who are both professional and easy-going, the institute also has old faculty members who are well experienced as well. However, at times, they can be quite strict too. The present HOD of civil engineering is moreover admirable as well. My cousin states the same because he sat for one of his classes. He mentions that the HOD is rather supportive and dynamic. He is always willing to be of help if any student needs it for their further studies. Professors of this department keep maintaining their decorum by all means. But, the placement stats of civil engineering has unfortunately not been great in most of the institutes nonetheless.
