Ans. Here is some information to assist you in choice-making- Snapdeal, Amazon, Google, etc. visit IIEST Shibpur and offer equal placement opportunities to both IT and CSE students. My roommate from IT got into Snapdeal through campus placement.  IEM isn’t a well-known college. It is a local college unlike IIEST, which is an institute of national importance. The campus size of IEM is very small. Big companies don’t usually visit small colleges like IEM.  The college tag has a value of its own. Besides, the opportunities and exposure offered by IIEST are immense.  Thus, I would recommend you opt for IT at IIEST Shibpur. Read more

Ques. Should I take CSE in KIIT or IEM, Kolkata?

Ans. I have a friend who scored a rank of 1536 in KIITEE and chose CSE in KIIT while another who got a rank of 4158 in WBJEE and went got IEM ECE. What I mean is that the institute does not matter but it’s your capability and skills that determine your success rate. I find judging colleges based on placements very silly.  So, if your ultimate goal is BTech only then take any one between IEM and KIIT depending on your financial background but if you are planning to pursue higher education, IEM will help you save money that can later be used for higher studies. Read more

Ques. How is IEM CSE? How are the placements and faculties?

Ans. The placement scenario for IEM CSE can be evaluated on the basis of placement percentage and average or median salary. IEM Kolkata maintains a good placement record over the years and every year many students get placed through its efficient placement drive. IES placements 2021 statistics are mentioned IMT in the table below Total graduating students 1016 Number of students placed 813 Number of students opted out 91 Median salary INR 10.50 LPA The faculty is a mixed pool, some extremely good while some very inefficient. Most students prefer self-studying or seeking help from seniors rather than approaching professors. The fees are a bit higher than government colleges like MAKAUT Main, Ceramic Tech, Kalyani Govt, etc. IEM first-year fees for the BTech program are ?1.78 Lakhs. The high fees do not translate to high-paying jobs here so the ROI will be very low.  Some other minor flaws are the lack of greenery and the uniform compulsion.  Here, everything depends on your skills and dedication. So adopt a positive mindset, and study well so that you can clear entrances like GATE, GRE, CAT, or GMAT. You cannot be solely dependent on college for shaping your career!Read more

Ans. According to the recent highlights of IEM, Kolkata placements, the average CTC for EE is around INR 5-6 LPA. In recent placements, the highest CTC received by the student of Electrical Engineering is INR 12 LPA. The placement rate for the branch is around 80-90%. Students get recruited in core job profiles as well as IT job profiles. TCS, Cognizant, Wipro, etc. are among the major recruiters to take part in the placement drive. Read more

Ques. How is IEM Kolkata? Which is better, CS at IEM Kolkata or civil/IT at Jadavpur?

Ans. IEM Kolkata is a reputed technical college in the region. But given a choice, you should take Civil/IT at Jadavpur University. JU ranks among the top engineering colleges in the country. It is well ahead of IEM, in terms of placement and opportunities.  Many core companies visit JU to recruit Civil Engineering students. The IT placement is excellent. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, etc. take part in Jadavpur University placements. During the 2022 placement drive, Facebook offered the highest CTC of INR 1.8 Crore per annum. Ques. Which is better for a B. tech, DAVIET Jalandhar or CGC Landran?

Ans. Both colleges have a good reputation but which is a better option that depends upon a number of factors. CGC Landran is ranked in 210-250 band by NIRF 2020 whereas DAVIET is ranked 100 by India Today. Given below is a brief overview of the two colleges. Parameters CGC Landran DAVIET Approved by AICTE, PCI, NCTE UGC, AICTE, NAAC ‘A’ grade Courses offered BTech, BBA, MBA, BSc, BCA, Bcom, MCA BTech, BCA, BHMCT, MBA, BBA, Bcom, BTTM Entrance exam accepted JEE Mains, GATE, PTU CET, CAT JEE Mains, GATE, CMAT Average CTC 7.08 LPA 3.5 LPA DAVIET fee structure is lower than CGC Landran. DAVIET has an average annual fee of Rs. 70,000 whereas CGC Landran has an average annual fee of Rs.96,000. Scholarships: CGC Landran offers merit scholarships, merit-means scholarships, scholarships for differently-abled students, etc. DAVIET offers Post Matric Scholarships to eligible candidates from the reserved category as per the Punjab Govt/IKG PTU norm. Placement: CGC Landran has better placement (almost 100%) in IT/CSE department as compared to DAVIET Jalandhar and for core streams like Mechanical, Electrical etc both are equally good. On the other hand, DAVIET has a lower placement percentage but has a higher average salary as DAVIET does not allow mass recruiters which offer less than 3 LPA packages. Every year top companies like Samsung, IBM, Microsoft, Dell etc visit both the campuses. In terms of placement percentage, CGC Landran has led with 100% placement compared to DAVIET Jalandhar which has 85% placement. The average package of both the colleges is the same 3.5 LPA. The highest package of CGC Landran is 35 LPA whereas the highest package of DAVIET Jalandhar is only 10 LPA. As CGC is a group of institutions, it has advantages over the highest package data. So, the choice of college purely depends on one’s priority. Placement wise CGC Landran has an edge over DAVIET but if you consider fee structure and campus location or exposure then DAVIET is better. DAVIET is located in Jalandhar city and hence has location advantage and better connectivity than CGC Landran. Academically both are equally good colleges and their average placement is similar. DAVIET has comparatively a smaller number of placements but quality placements and CGC has more placements from mass recruiters.Read more
