Ans. Here is some information to assist you in choice-making- Snapdeal, Amazon, Google, etc. visit IIEST Shibpur and offer equal placement opportunities to both IT and CSE students. My roommate from IT got into Snapdeal through campus placement.  IEM isn’t a well-known college. It is a local college unlike IIEST, which is an institute of national importance. The campus size of IEM is very small. Big companies don’t usually visit small colleges like IEM.  The college tag has a value of its own. Besides, the opportunities and exposure offered by IIEST are immense.  Thus, I would recommend you opt for IT at IIEST Shibpur. Read more

Ques. Should I take CSE in KIIT or IEM, Kolkata?

Ans. I have a friend who scored a rank of 1536 in KIITEE and chose CSE in KIIT while another who got a rank of 4158 in WBJEE and went got IEM ECE. What I mean is that the institute does not matter but it’s your capability and skills that determine your success rate. I find judging colleges based on placements very silly.  So, if your ultimate goal is BTech only then take any one between IEM and KIIT depending on your financial background but if you are planning to pursue higher education, IEM will help you save money that can later be used for higher studies. Read more

Ans. The placement scenario for IEM CSE can be evaluated on the basis of placement percentage and average or median salary. IEM Kolkata maintains a good placement record over the years and every year many students get placed through its efficient placement drive. IES placements 2021 statistics are mentioned IMT in the table below Total graduating students 1016 Number of students placed 813 Number of students opted out 91 Median salary INR 10.50 LPA The faculty is a mixed pool, some extremely good while some very inefficient. Most students prefer self-studying or seeking help from seniors rather than approaching professors. The fees are a bit higher than government colleges like MAKAUT Main, Ceramic Tech, Kalyani Govt, etc. IEM first-year fees for the BTech program are ?1.78 Lakhs. The high fees do not translate to high-paying jobs here so the ROI will be very low.  Some other minor flaws are the lack of greenery and the uniform compulsion.  Here, everything depends on your skills and dedication. So adopt a positive mindset, and study well so that you can clear entrances like GATE, GRE, CAT, or GMAT. You cannot be solely dependent on college for shaping your career!Read more

Ans. IEM Kolkata is a reputed technical college in the region. But given a choice, you should take Civil/IT at Jadavpur University. JU ranks among the top engineering colleges in the country. It is well ahead of IEM, in terms of placement and opportunities.  Many core companies visit JU to recruit Civil Engineering students. The IT placement is excellent. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, etc. take part in Jadavpur University placements. During the 2022 placement drive, Facebook offered the highest CTC of INR 1.8 Crore per annum. Ans. One of my cousins is studying CSE at UEM University so I can give you a scenario of UEM University. Here are a few of the things about UEM Kolkata. The faculties of UEM Kolkata are good and they also help students. You will have all the academic exposure here as lots of conferences keep happening at UEM. The academic design of UEM is also good. But semesters are not easy, you have to study hard. UEM seniors are good. Few of them have created video games for android and built non-framework cars. UEM also started a group where students can build their own cars. In the table below take a look at the placement scenario of both institutes. Category B.C. Ans. I have a few friends at the Haldia Institute of Technology and based on what I heard from them, I will suggest you to look for other options. Having a college campus in Kolkata will be advantageous for you. You can get IT in Techno India salt-lake main campus. If you don’t get Techno you can go for CSE in B.P. Poddar, RCC or St. Thomas, or any other college. Follow previous year trends of opening and closing ranks of the college and make a choice accordingly. Choosing the University of Engineering and Management (UEM), Kolkata can be risky because it is newly established. Even though it is under the banner of IEM, you can’t be certain about placements. Going by the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered at the institute is 4 LPA.Read more

Ans. One of my close friends studied CSE at the Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata. According to her, they have a great faculty, well-maintained infrastructure, and an updated curriculum. Heritage Institute provides better placement opportunities than UEM and CIEM Kolkata. It also offers good industrial exposure to its students through various kinds of workshops, seminars, and guest lectures. UEM is a very new college so it cannot be compared with old institutions like Heritage or CIEM.
