Here are some key differences between the CSE and Computer and Communication Engineering courses at the Manipal Institute of Technology.  CCE comes under the I&CT department so it comprises concepts related to networking and communication along with a few modules of CSE while CSE deals with an algorithmic approach to solving problems and software engineering. CCE is a new branch and its placement scenario is unknown although it has become the 4th most popular branch. CSE is the most preferred branch of MIT Manipal and therefore also has the best placements. CCE has a lot of courses like Cloud Computing, Big Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computer Vision. Ans. IT giants like Google and Facebook do not visit MIT Manipal for campus placements however that does not mean that students of this college dont make it to these IT giants. We have examples of a few alumni who are now working in these companies.  Let me tell you an interesting fact. Companies like Google and Facebook dont recruit on the basis of your college credibility or grades. They have a fixed mark set up for their employees, and everyone who qualifies for this mark gets hired. So the college from which you completed your graduation has nothing to do with your chances of getting employed by IT giants like Google and Amazon. All you need is a good knowledge of data structures and algorithms and a passion for computer science. MIT Manipal is a well-reputed college amongst IT companies in general so you shouldn't worry about job opportunities in the IT sector at least. You can apply to these IT giants through portals like Google Careers, etc., and also participate in competitions like Google Code Jam, Facebook Hacker Cup, ICPC, etc, You can also contribute to various open source projects through GSOC, etc.  So it's safe to conclude that there is no dearth of opportunities at MIT Manipal and you are likely to end up in companies like Google and Facebook by applying off campus.Read more

Ques. How good is the B.Tech information technology course at the Manipal Institute of Technology?

Ans. MIT Manipal BTech Information Technology is decently structured covering concepts related to software, hardware, and networking as well. Although the degree offered is that B.E in IT, the department is called Information and Communication Technology so students have to also study communication courses straight from students of the ECE branch. I will advise you to take up this course only if you are interested in computers and related stuff because the concepts taught are tough and unless you have an interest in the field you won’t be able to cope with the rigorous curriculum. Here are some additional points you would like to know about the branch Every semester has 5 subjects and 3 labs. The labs carry two credits, unlike other branches where they have 2 labs of 1 credit. So practicals are given a lot of importance.  A good variety of electives are offered making the curriculum flexible.  You will have to learn to code if you opt for this branch.  The IT branch has 5 subjects only so they can go home earlier than other students and the end-semesters get over two days earlier.  There are evaluations every fortnight in the labs, lab sessionals, and quizzes for internals for theory subjects and labs as well which other branches don't.  The placement scenario is great because of the immense demand of this branch. Overall, this branch will fetch you enough opportunities if you are genuinely passionate about it.Read more

Ans. The Instrumentation and Control Engineering branch at MIT Manipal is a multifaceted branch dealing with various subjects related to Electrical, Electronics, and mechanical. Students are taught about sensors, transducers, electrical and mechanical instruments, microcontrollers, control systems, process automation, etc. The branch is good and its labs are equipped with modern instruments. The faculty is decent and the placement scenario seems very promising. One of my friends recently completed his BTech in instrumentation and control and gave me an active idea of the placement scenario of the branch. Out of the entire batch around 95% of students got placed. The highest package stood at INR 20 LPA and the average stood at INR 10 LPA while the lowest was recorded at INR 5 LPA. The star recruiters included Mercedes, Flipkart, Amazon, and Nvidia among many others. Overall, this branch is great if you are interested in this field.Read more

Ans. The choice of the branch is more important than choosing the institute because it determines and shapes your career. If you are interested in working in a PSU or have an interest in Electronics, choose ECE but if you have no such inclinations choose CS, the most diverse field. There are two main differences between IIITs and NITs IIITs are relatively new and may not have a very extensive alumni network while NITs are aged old and have an elaborate network. NITs provide diverse specialization in various fields while IIITs only focus on Computer Science education.  Based on the placement scenario and the academics, here is the preference order I would suggest you follow while making your choice NIT Jalandhar CSE>IIIT Jabalpur CSE>NIT Raipur CSE>NIT Kurukshetra ECE>NIT Hamirpur ECE> NIT Jamshedpur ECE It's important to note that this preference order is not based on any official data and is based on my own opinion only.Read more

Ans. Both NIT Silchar as well as IIIT Jabalpur are backed by the Government of India and have similar facilities. The campus, faculty, and alumni network are great in both cases. However, there are some additional parameters in which IIIT Jabalpur fares better making it a more preferable choice. Some of them have been mentioned below Location : Jabalpur enjoys a good location in the heart of the country while NIT Silchar is located remotely in the North-East. Therefore IIIT Jabalpur has better connectivity and exposure. International collaboration: IIIT Jabalpur has ties with Japan resulting in frequent lectures conducted by Japanese faculty and frequent visits to Japan. Such international ties give it an edge over NIT Silchar in the kind of opportunities offered. Clubs: IIIT Jabalpur has several technical, cultural, and sports clubs, constituting the Student Gymkhana that ensures the holistic development of the students. Coding Culture: The institute is known to have an active coding culture that is promoted by many active programming, web development, and graphics designing clubs.
