AAFT Diploma in Photography FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between the Diploma in Photography at AAFT and a certificate course in photography?

Ans. The Diploma in Photography and Videography is a 1-year programme with 4 semesters covering a comprehensive curriculum from camera fundamentals to portfolio development. A certificate course (also offered at AAFT) is a shorter 3-month programme focused on specific skills. The diploma provides a much deeper and broader foundation, making it more suitable for those seeking a professional career in photography.

Ques. Do I need to own a camera before joining the Diploma in Photography at AAFT?

Ans. While having your own camera is beneficial for practice, AAFT provides access to professional studio equipment, cameras, and lighting setups on campus. Students are trained on industry-standard DSLRs and studio equipment. However, it is advisable to check with the admissions team about any equipment requirements before joining.

Ques. What genres of photography are covered in the diploma programme?

Ans. The curriculum covers a wide range of photography genres including portraiture, fashion photography, photojournalism, tabletop photography, landscape and wildlife photography, ramp photography, and commercial photography. Students also learn post-production, vector graphics, and portfolio development, giving them a well-rounded skill set.

Ques. Can I pursue the Diploma in Photography after completing 10th standard, or is 12th mandatory?

Ans. The minimum eligibility for the Diploma in Photography at AAFT is 10+2 (12th standard) from a recognised board with at least 50% marks. Students who have only completed 10th standard are not eligible for this diploma. AAFT does not offer a diploma in photography after 10th; students would need to complete their 12th first.

Ques. What kind of portfolio will I build during the diploma programme?

Ans. By the end of the programme, students develop a professional portfolio that includes theme-based character portraits, dramatic moment captures, fashion catalogs, photo stories, and a coffee table book. The portfolio is built progressively across all 4 semesters and is designed to showcase the student's range and technical proficiency to potential employers or clients.

Ques. Is the Diploma in Photography at AAFT suitable for someone who wants to become a wedding or event photographer?

Ans. Yes, the programme covers studio and outdoor shooting setups, portraiture, and event photography techniques that are directly applicable to wedding and event photography. However, the curriculum also exposes students to commercial, fashion, and photojournalism genres, giving them the flexibility to choose their niche. Many AAFT photography alumni have gone on to work as freelance photographers and studio owners.

Fees and Financial Aid:

There is no scholarship offered for diploma students and I dont know about the graduation and masters. About the fee structure I just want to tell that its better that you pay the fees one time because its cheaper and you get 15000-20000 difference if you pay one time than that of 3 slots and also dont have much expectations for the placement you can maybe lucky or you will get job on your own
