IIM Selection Process: Eligibility Criteria

CAT eligibility criteria for admission in the IIMs are as mentioned below:

  • Minimum 50% aggregate marks in graduation for general category candidates. 
  • Minimum 45% aggregate marks in graduation for reserved category candidates. 
  • Candidates appearing for the final year of UG are also eligible. 
  • Candidates qualifying the minimum CAT cut off criteria decided by the institute. 

IIM Admission Criteria and Selection Process 2026-28

IIM admission criteria include the selection of candidates based on their CAT percentile along with the performance of candidates in WAT/GD and PI, academic history, academic diversity, gender diversity, and work experience.

  • Some of the IIMs have also scrapped WAT and GD.
  • Due to the rise in COVID cases, the PI round was conducted via video calls in the last 2 years. This year, IIMs may conduct face-to-face interviews depending on the pandemic situation.
  • The important dates related to the admission process will be released shortly.

Stages of CAT 2025 IIM Admission and Selection Process

CAT 2025 IIM admission process can be divided into the following stage: 

Stage 1: Shortlisting of Candidates based on CAT scores

  • Candidates have to apply by visiting the official websites of IIMs to become eligible for the admission process. 
  • Candidates who are qualifying for the CAT cut off decided by the institute will become eligible for stage 2 of the admission process. 

Stage 2: Shortlisting of Candidates for WAT/GD-PI

  • Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their CAT score and academic record. 
  • WAT-GD-PI round is conducted based on which candidates will be judged and awarded marks for the final selection process. 

Stage 3: Calculation of Composite Score

  • Composite score of each candidate is calculated based on various parameters. 
  • Based on the composite scores the final selection list will be prepared. 

The factors considered by IIMs for GD-WAT-PI include the parameters given below. However, every IIM has its own specific weightage assigned to these parameters that is given in the next section.

Ans. Yes, IIMs consider class 10th and 12th marks for shortlisting candidates for stage 2 of the admission process, i.e. WAT-PI. However, the weightage assigned by each IIM may vary. Ans. Yes, Arts graduates get diversity points for admission into IIM provided they score higher than the cut-off. All non-engineering graduates get diversity points at the time of admission. The weightage for Diversity factor is between 5-10% depending on the IIMs.
