Table of 12

The table of 12 is obtained through the repetitive addition of 12 to itself. A table is given below for better understanding.

Table of 12
12 × 1 = 12 12
12 × 2 = 24 12 + 12 = 24
12 × 3 = 36 12 + 12 + 12 = 36
12 × 4 = 48 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 48
12 × 5 = 60 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 60
12 × 6 = 72 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 72
12 × 7 = 84 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 84
12 × 8 = 96 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 96
12 × 9 = 108 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 108
12 × 10 = 120 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 120

To understand how to use table of 12 in numerical, a few examples are given below.

Example 1: If twelve people have 6 luggage bags each, how many luggage bags are there in total?

Solution: Here, 12 people have 6 luggage bags

Using the table of 12, 12 times 6 is, 12 x 6 = 72

Thus, the total number of luggage bags is 72.

Example 2: If there are 84 mangoes and they are to be distributed equally among 12 people, how many mangoes will each person get?

Solution: We know that 12 x 7 = 84

Thus, each person will get 7 mangoes.

Learning the table of 12 can become easy through various tips and tricks. A few such tricks are given below.

First Trick

The first trick involves a very simple process. First write down the numbers from 1 to 12 in ascending order, excluding the numbers 5 and 11.

1 2 3 4 6 7 8 9 10 12

Now, the second step is to write the even numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, 0 next to the above numbers repeatedly, as such;

12 24 36 48 60 72 84 96 108 120

And now we have the table of 12 right here.

Second Trick

The table of 12 can be obtained by adding the table of 2 and the table of 10.

Table of 10 Table of 2 Addition Table of 12
10 × 1 = 10 2 × 1 = 2 10 + 2 12
10 × 2 = 20 2 × 2 = 4 20 + 4  24
10 × 3 = 30 2 × 3 = 6 30 + 6  36
10 × 4 = 40 2 × 4 = 8 40 + 8  48
10 × 5 = 50 2 × 5 = 10 50 + 10 60
10 × 6 = 60 2 × 6 = 12 60 + 12 72
10 × 7 = 70 2 × 7 = 14 70 + 14 84
10 × 8 = 80 2 × 8 = 16 80 + 16 96
10 × 9 = 90 2 × 9 = 18 90 + 18 108
10 × 10 = 100 2 × 10 = 20 100 + 20 120

Here the table of 12 is obtained as the result by adding the table of 10 and the table of 2.

Third Trick

Another way we can get the table of 12 is by doubling the table of 6.

Table of 6 Doubling the value Results of 12 table
6 × 1 = 6 6 x 2 12
6 × 2 = 12 12 x 2 24
6 × 3 = 18 18 x 2 36
6 × 4 = 24 24 x 2 48
6 × 5 = 30 30 x 2 60
6 × 6 = 36 36 x 2 72
6 × 7 = 42 42 x 2 84
6 × 8 = 48 48 x 2 96
6 × 9 = 54 54 x 2 108
6 × 10 = 60 60 x 2 120

Here, we get the table of 12 by multiplying the table of 6 with 2.

Sample Questions

Ques: If a girl buys 3 dozen bananas at the price of Rs. 2 per banana, what was the total cost of the bananas? [2 marks]

Ans: Given that the girls bought 3 dozen bananas.

1 dozen = 12; 3 dozens = 12 x 3 = 36

Thus, the price of total bananas = 2 x 36 = Rs. 72

Ques: Solve 122 + 12 + 12 x 4 [2 marks]

Ans: 122 + 12 + 12 x 4

= 144 + 12 + 48

= 144 + 60

= 204

Ques: If you have to buy 7 rings for each of your friends and you have total 12 friends, how many rings will you buy? [2 marks]

Ans: Total number of friends = 12

Rings for each friend = 7

Thus, total number of rings = 12 x 7 = 84.

Ques: If there are a total of 216 toffees and each student is to get 12 toffees, then how many students will get the toffees? [2 marks]

Ans: Total number of toffees = 216

Toffees to each student = 12

Number of students getting the toffees = 216/12 = 18.

Ques: Solve 122 + 13 + 12 x 9 [2 marks]

Ans: 122 + 13 + 12 x 9

= 144 + 13 + 108

= 144 + 121

= 265

Ques: Calculate the 12 times 15 plus 10. [2 marks]

Ans: 12 times 15 = 12 x 15 = 180

Now, 12 times 15 plus 10 = 180 + 10 = 190.

Ques: If a car can travel for 12 km on 1 litre of petrol, how many kilometres can it cover on 16 litres of petrol? [2 marks]
