The Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Puducherry, revised the UG NEET 2024 seat conversion rules, effective October 16, 2024, updating the process for converting vacant seats in Round 3 counseling.

Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Puducherry, issued a corrigendum that replaces the seat conversion algorithm for UG NEET admissions 2024. The changes are effective as of 16th October 2024, under the Round 3 counseling regulation that relates to conversion of vacant seats as prevailed under the original information brochure of UG NEET on page 54.

Key Changes in Seat Conversion

The revised seat conversion process, as per the updated Annexure II, is summarized below:

Self-Supporting Seats in Government Colleges:

  • In Round 3, any vacant self-supporting seats in government colleges will be converted to government quota seats. There will be no further conversions for these seats.

NRI / NRI Sponsored / Foreign National / OCI Seats:

The conversion hierarchy has been updated as follows:

  • Level 1 Conversion- Vacant NRI seats will first be converted to management quota seats in private colleges. If still vacant, they will then be converted to self-supporting seats in government colleges.
  • Level 2 Conversion- If the seats remain vacant after Level 1, they will be retained as management quota seats or converted to government quota seats as necessary.

Implications of the Corrigendum

Modification was done to make the process of seat allotment in Round 3 counseling more efficient so that vacant seats could be filled among all quota categories. Modifications along with instructions received from competent authorities are meant to provide students with more opportunities to find their admission under different quotas.

Upgraded seat conversion norms will be the main mechanism to govern the availability of undergraduates in Puducherry hospitals under government and private managements.
