CISCE's guidelines emphasise the significance of providing suitable educational assistance and accommodations to address the learning challenges faced by students falling under these diverse categories.

New Delhi: The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has announced its commitment to offering enhanced support to ISC and ICSE students with disabilities from the examination year 2025. This provides additional compensatory time and the inclusion of Borderline Intellectual Function (BIF) and disabilities falling outside the benchmark disability status.
Aligned with the NEP 2020, the council has updated the 'Guidelines for Comprehensive Support Measures in Examinations: Concessions and Benefits for Diverse Needs Learners’. Under the revised guidelines, students in Class 10 and 12 with disabilities will now receive 20 minutes of compensatory time in exams, an increase from the previous 15 minutes.

Furthermore, attendance relaxation will be considered case-by-case, and broader access to electronic devices. The benefits and concessions for students with disabilities are categorised into eight major groups, considering the specific condition of each individual.

CISCE said, “It has been customary to provide concessions and benefits for students with benchmark disabilities as covered by the PRwD Act 2016. However, recognising the evolving landscape of learning needs and the limitations of relying solely on disability classifications mentioned in the Act, CISCE has taken a landmark decision to expand the scope of guidelines to include learning needs associated with disability conditions not falling under benchmark disability status, and Borderline Intellectual Functioning (BIF)”.
CISCE's guidelines delineate the detailed provisions of benefits and concessions available to students with disabilities, both during the learning process and examinations, recognizing the importance of inclusive education.
