New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI), D Y Chandrachud attended the inaugural ceremony at the National Law University in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Addressing the event, CJI Justice emphasised the importance of extending legal education to the country's rural regions.
He pointed out that legal education is presently available to English-speaking students. University education in law should be expanded to remote parts of the country so that students from small towns do not miss out on education opportunities. He urged the university to employ Hindi as the medium of instruction in the college.

Speaking on this occasion, CJI said, “Technology has given us the ability to reach out to far-flung students. Despite developments in legal education, the contemporary legal education system favours only English-speaking urban children”.
"I appeal to Dr Rajendra Prasad National Law University to ensure that the medium of instruction takes place in Hindi so that the best students from Uttar Pradesh become the best lawyers who will practice before the High Court. Many of them will join the district judiciary and some of them will join colleges," he said.
