Delhi University is expected to begin admissions for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in mid-May 2026 through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal.

The University of Delhi has announced that admissions for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in 2026-27 are likely to commence in the third week of May, aligning closely with the CUET (Common University Entrance Test) examination schedule. The university will conduct admissions through its centralised Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal, which operates in multiple phases starting with registration. DU Dean of Admissions Haneet Gandhi indicated that the registration window is likely to open as CUET UG exams begin, with the portal expected to open around the third week of May 2026. Undergraduate admissions will be based on CUET UG scores, while postgraduate admissions will utilise CUET PG scores that have already been obtained from the examination conducted in March 2026.

The CUET PG 2026 examination was conducted from March 6 to March 27, 2026, across multiple subjects and shifts in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to declare CUET PG results by early May 2026, allowing postgraduate candidates to register on the CSAS portal for seat allocation.

Meanwhile, CUET UG 2026 is tentatively scheduled to be held between May 11 and May 31, 2026, with undergraduate candidates expected to register on the CSAS portal immediately after the exam window opens. This staggered timeline ensures that both UG and PG admissions can proceed smoothly through the CSAS portal starting in mid-May 2026.

The University of Delhi aims to address long-standing concerns over delayed academic calendars by compressing the duration of each admission round and introducing a faster admission cycle. Officials have stated that the university will try to shorten the allocation period as much as possible, with even one or two days of adjustment per round being sufficient to improve overall efficiency.

The university's primary focus is on finishing the admission process on time so that classes can begin at the earliest possible date in the academic session.

Alongside timeline adjustments, Delhi University is working to improve the usability and functionality of the CSAS portal to provide a better user experience for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The university plans to introduce additional prompts and guidance features to minimise errors during the application process and help students navigate the system more effectively. These enhancements are designed to reduce technical glitches, simplify the application process, and make seat allocation smoother for all candidates.

Subject mapping remains a critical component of the DU admission process, requiring at least 50% similarity between Class 12 studies and CUET papers for UG candidates, and relevant postgraduate qualifications for PG candidates. The university has reiterated the importance of careful subject selection during CUET registration, as this directly impacts course eligibility and admission prospects. Students must ensure that their CUET subject choices align with their educational background to meet the minimum similarity requirement for their desired programmes.

DU officials have advised candidates to thoroughly review subject mapping guidelines before finalising their CUET subject selections to avoid eligibility issues during the admission process.
