Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Attended First Convocation Ceremony of IIM Mumbai

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai held its first convocation on January 28, 2024. A total of 1,013 degrees were awarded to the students from the batch of 2020-2022 and 2021-23.

Among the 1,013 students, there were 32 PhD candidates, 955 postgraduate students across all postgraduate programmes and 26 VLFM students.These students have become the first ones to get their degree certificate under the IIM Mumbai stamp, which was erstwhile National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE). At the same time, these two batches are also the last ones to get Post Graduate (PG) Diploma which NITIE offered until now. Batches passing out of IIM Mumbai hereafter will get IIM Mumbai’s MBA degree.

Ashishkumar Chauhan, MD & CEO, National Stock Exchange (NSE), was guest of honour for the event. Prof. Manoj K. Tiwari; Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Mumbai, Shri Shashi Kiran Shetty; academicians, Professors, other dignitaries also attended the event. 

Union Eductaion Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan digitally unveiled the new logo of IIM Mumbai and the hostel of the institute. Congratulating the students, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who was the chief guest for the event, said, “The institute has travelled a long distance in its journey to become IIM. I am glad to know that it has seen a 20 per cent jump in the number of recruiters coming for placements indicating changing market perception post the new status. But I will encourage students of IIM Mumbai to become entrepreneurs instead and give jobs.”

Shri Shashi Kiran Shetty in his address said that IIM Mumbai will accelerate in research and industry connect. Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari thanked the Prime Minister and the Education Minister, the special committee chair Shri Ashishkumar Chauhan and the Chairman of BOG IIM Mumbai for their role in rechristening NITIE to IIM Mumbai. He also shared the report card of the institute.
