Education Minister Pradhan Inaugurated Skill India Centre in Deogarh on Feb 24

New Delhi: On February 24, 2024, the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the Skill India Centre (SIC) in Deogarh to mark the establishment of the third such centre in the state. These centres are inaugurated as hubs for practical knowledge in media, leather, tourism, hospitality, and IT-ITeS.

The national training centre aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical experience by offering ten courses. These courses include storyboard artists, graphic designers, stitchers for goods and garments, cutters for goods and garments, helpers, barista executives, and IT helpdesk assistants.

The official press release stated that the SIC focuses on enhancing placement opportunities to refine students' skills through industry-specific courses, establish networking avenues, and provide training in emerging technologies.

During the inauguration, Minister Pradhan highlighted that the SIC unlocks the potential of young individuals by equipping them with skills oriented towards the future and fostering entrepreneurship. He underscored the government's commitment to skilling, re-skilling, and up-skilling the workforce to enhance their competence and self-reliance.

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) will oversee the operations of the SIC, ensuring adherence to quality standards and effective training delivery. The SIC aims to contribute its expertise, collaborate with industry partners, and cultivate a skilled workforce to meet the talent demand across various industries.

After the inauguration in Deogarh, similar events in Sambalpur were held on February 20, 2024, and Dhenkanal on February 23, 2024, collectively contributing to establishing Odisha as a skills hub. These initiatives instil confidence in young individuals poised to enter the job market, equipping them with the necessary skills for pursuing employment opportunities.
