During the talk, Prof Ajit Menon from Madras Institute of Development Studies shared his work with students, which features applying the theory of ‘spatial fix’ by David Harvey on both the development and conservation efforts of the Tamil Nadu government.

By using the theory of ‘spatial fix’, Prof Menon was able to conclude that development and conservation were two sides of the same coin. He studied the impacts of development and conservation on local lives in areas such as the Nilgiri forests, declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
