New Delhi: On March 7, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) unveiled a noteworthy modification to the CA Foundation and Inter exams. According to the updated guidelines, these exams will be conducted three times a year, specifically in January, May/June, and September.
This departure from the previous biannual schedule provides candidates with increased flexibility, as opposed to the traditional format of holding the exams twice a year. The announcement was made during the ICAI’s All India Managing Committee Members Meet (AIMCMM 2024) in Kolkata.
Dhiraj Khandelwal, a Central Council Member (CCM) of ICAI, conveyed the change on his official Twitter account, expressing approval for the institute's decision to enhance the frequency of CA examinations. This adjustment, particularly in favor of CA students, offers them three opportunities annually to undertake the CA Foundation and CA Inter exams.
In addition to altering the exam pattern, ICAI collaborated with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India to introduce a Certificate Course for Accountants of Panchayats and Municipal Bodies. This initiative aims to equip local self-government entities with skilled and trained accountants. The eligibility criteria for this four-month online course include a Class 12 qualification, fostering inclusivity and accessibility.
Furthermore, ICAI established a committee on 'AI in ICAI' to explore the potential applications of artificial intelligence for the professional development of students, members, and employees. This forward-looking approach seeks to leverage AI to enhance various aspects of the institute's functions.
The CA foundation exam is the entry-level examination for individuals aspiring to become Chartered Accountants in India, accessible to candidates after completing their Class 12 exams. Following the Foundation stage, successful candidates can progress to the CA Intermediate level, which comprises two groups with four subjects each. The CA final exam represents the concluding step toward becoming a Chartered Accountant.
