New Delhi: The Public Policy Club, IIFT Kolkata and the Toastmasters Club, IIM Calcutta have successfully organized the second edition of the National Policy Hackathon 2024 with Knowledge Partner Ikigai Law, a well-known legal and public policy firm. The event drew participants from 16+ states and 180+ institutions across India.
The National Policy Hackathon 2024 encourages conversations, inspiration, and cooperation between the participants and participating institutes. The event inspired guests and served to build a community of innovators committed to improving society through innovative policies.

Speaking on this occasion, the event organiser, Franklin D Roosevelt commented, "We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future".
The hackathon featured discussions on an array of policy topics, from using current technology to combat deepfake content to proposing sustainable solutions to prevent plastic waste in the food industry.
Key Highlights of National Policy Hackathon 2024

The National Policy Hackathon 2024 covered three rounds, allowing aspiring policy enthusiasts to explore current issues and provide creative solutions. The first two rounds focused on whitepaper submissions covering case studies addressing the deepfake threat, recycled plastic in the food industry, and the need for labour upskilling.
The proposals shared during the hackathon focused on the participants' analytical and creative thinking in addressing complex policy concerns. After the evaluation process, seven finalists were selected to present their proposals on March 3, 2024, at the IIM Calcutta campus.
The judges for the hackathon comprised Professor Rajesh Bhattacharya from IIM Calcutta's public policy and management department, Professor Debashis Chakraborty from IIFT Kolkata's economics group, and Rutuja Pol, the lead of government affairs at Ikigai Law. The presentations were evaluated according to their level of analysis, clarity, uniqueness, and solution feasibility.
