IIM Shillong Hosts 15th Convocation with 349 PGP and PhD Graduates

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management, (IIM) Shillong held its 15th Annual Convocation on April 03, 2024. During the convocation, five PhD students received their doctorate degrees with 281 PGP, 47 PGPEX, and 16 PGPWE students. The IIM Shillong cap-and-gown convocation attire was inspired by the traditional Khasi tribal wrap, ‘Muka’.

The IIM Shillong convocation attire was created by the IIT Shillong with the Centre of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK). It serves as an addition to the rich traditions of the areas in Shillong. The attire featured an Eri silk scarf made in traditional colors, created by members of the Tamulpur Anchalik Gramdaan Sangh.

Key Highlights of the IIM Shillong Convocation 2024

During the convocation, students received their degrees from the IIM Shillong Faculty including the Board of Directors Shishir Kumar Bajoria, IIM Shillong Director Prof DP Goyal, and Sanmar Group Chairman Narayanan Kumar. Medals were given to several students for achieving the highest grades, being all-rounders, or impacting campus life with their extracurricular contributions.

Shishir Kumar Bajoria spoke to the students at the Convocation, motivating them to develop their skills and contribute to India’s economic and social; growth. Prof DP Goyal lauded IIM Shillong on its ability to integrate the best international practices with Indian cultural and civilizational knowledge. He mentioned that the 22 MoUs signed by IIM Shillong with various institutes showed its spirit of cooperation.

Narayanan Kumar also addressed the fresh graduates in an address, He said, “I firmly believe that India is the country of the decade, and I urge the students of IIM Shillong to leverage their education to contribute towards the country's progress and make a positive impact on the society. New India offers tremendous opportunities for young Indians to pursue dreams and achieve goals.”
