IISER Kolkata PhD Admission 2026

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata has opened applications for its PhD Programme for the Autumn Semester 2026, with the last date to apply set for May 7, 2026. The IISER Kolkata seeks researchers across various disciplines, including Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Computational and Data Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physical Sciences.

The admission cycle follows a strict timeline. Candidates are advised to complete their submissions before the portal closes in May. Candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee to complete their submission.

For applicants belonging to the General, EWS, and OBC-NCL categories, the fee is set at ₹ 200. Candidates from the SC, ST, and PwD categories are eligible for a reduced fee of ₹ 100. This payment must be processed through the online portal during the application window.

IISER Kolkata PhD Admission 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the program, a candidate must hold a Master’s degree (or B.E./B.Tech./M.Tech./MBBS) in a relevant field with at least 55% aggregate marks. For those applying after a 4-year Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 75% aggregate marks is required.

It is important to note that a relaxation of 5% in marks is provided to candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, and PwD categories. Additionally, applicants must have qualified in a National Level Eligibility Examination (such as GATE, CSIR-UGC NET JRF/LS, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, or INSPIRE fellowship) to be considered for the selection process.

The selection process involves initial shortlisting based on academic records and national exam scores. Shortlisted candidates must then clear a Selection Interview conducted by the respective departments. To apply, candidates should visit the official admission portal, register their details, upload the required documents, and submit the online application before the deadline.
