New Delhi: The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has successfully organised its one-day “Interdisciplinary SciFest 2024” on February 07, 2024. The fest was held under the Subject Association at Ramanujan Block for over 200 participants
The Interdisciplinary SciFest 2024 is held to encourage students to discuss research ideas and applications as well as learn about the related domains. Prof. Eqbal Hussain, JMI's Officiating Vice Chancellor, unveiled the science festival as a chief guest.

In his speech, he commended the Centre's efforts to increase awareness of science among students. He further shared that the Centre is significant in the University's research and academic programs. The faculty of biological sciences would play an increasingly important role in the future.

Key Highlights of JMI Interdisciplinary SciFest 2024
The JMI’s Interdisciplinary SciFest 2024 featured interdisciplinary fields of study such as science presentations, quiz competitions, debates, essays, and cultural & recreational events. In addition to this, the fest included folk songs, poetry, food stalls with cuisines from Kashmir to Kerala, and a tug-of-war between students and instructors.
The major representations at this fest were from JMI Departments of Biotechnology, Biosciences, Chemistry, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, Multidisciplinary Centre for Advance Research and Studies, Fine Arts, English, Mathematics, and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences.

The Centre's Director, Professor Rajan Patel, presented opening comments regarding the SciFest as well as an update on the Centre's development. After this, Prof. Zahid Ashraf, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, highlighted the Centre's unique nature, which brings together faculty from various scientific disciplines. Prof. Seemi Farhat Baseer, Dean of Student Welfare, emphasised the Centre's relevance to JMI's NIRF rating.
