NCISM to Conduct the NExT 2024 in October

New Delhi: The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine or NCISM has announced changes to the schedule for the National Exit Test (NExT). From next year onward, the NExT will be conducted twice annually- once in February and then in August. However, for 2024, the exam is tentatively set for October.

The National Exit Test (NExT) serves as a crucial examination for those seeking to obtain a license to practice in the field of the Indian system of medicine. It also facilitates the enrollment of individuals as registered medical practitioners in this discipline following the completion of a one-year internship.

According to the recent notification on the NExT 2024 exam date, candidates who achieve a score of 50% or higher will be deemed “qualified”. The NCISM clarified that interns who pass the exam but have not yet completed their internship will be eligible for registration with State or National Registration Boards only after they have finished their one-year internship.

Who is Eligible for the NExT Exam?

The National Exit Test (NExT) is applicable for undergraduate medical students. The NExT eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • All undergraduate medical students enrolled in MBBS programs from medical colleges approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
  • Foreign Medical Graduates who have been approved by the NMC to obtain a license to practice medicine as a registered medical practitioner in India.
  • Individuals holding a medical degree for purposes such as pursuing academic courses, observerships, or any other purposes specified and approved by the NMC.

What is the Exam Pattern of the NExT 2024?

The NExT 2024 exam can be divided into three parts. Out of the 540 questions, 60%-70% will be focused on analytical and testing problem-solving skills, 20-30% on comprehension and analysis and the remaining 5-15% will be focused on recall questions.
