New Delhi: Guidelines for the National Exit Test (NExT) entrance test were recently released by the National Medical Commission (NMC). However, the NMC's plan to hold the NExt exam has been questioned by dissatisfied MBBS students.

According to NMC, the NExt exam will be held to validate medical graduates' eligibility to register to practice India's contemporary medical system. It will act as a license test. The class expected to graduate in 2024 will mark the start of the NExt exam is reportedly divided into two sections, with the theory-based first section being followed by practical, oral, and clinical tests for the seven clinical subjects and disciplines in the second section.

Dr. Dhruv Chauhan, a health activist, expressed his disapproval of NMC's decision to hold the NExt exam on Twitter. He tweeted, "The government must understand that what is happening to the students is not a joke and that by ignoring their concerns, NMC has become a totalitarian regime.

In the morning, I offer counselling to medical students from throughout the nation who are depressed due to the dreadful NExt exam and the numerous misunderstandings caused by the difficult mid-session. For god sake look into this matter.

NMC held a webinar on the NExt test for medical colleges and students in their last year of MBBS on June 27, 2023. All of the inquiries and worries about NExT were answered by the commission. NMC Chairman Suresh Chandra Sharma served as the webinar's host.

Doctor Question NMC's Decision

The NMC's standards drew more social media criticism after they were published. Students are objecting to a number of issues, including the qualifying percentage and tie-breaking standards, among others. Many doctors and MBBS students are against the NExT exam.

Their request is for their rules to be rescinded. Many of them are pointing out that it was against the NMC Act of 2019, while others are underlining how unclear the exam schedule was. A user claiming to be a doctor on twitter said, "You are doing an amazing job".

I am confident that NMC will make the required changes to the students' advantage. Another user commented, "Same thing happened with FMGs, NMC should reconsider this, as IMGs are not ready for this sudden surprise".

Another user said, "There should be distinct requirements for taking the qualifying exam, beginning an internship, obtaining PG seats, and applying for NExT. Additionally, how can they switch the entire exam format from 5/10 markers to MCQ in the middle of the session? They should consider all medical colleges, not just the top ones. NMC does not, however, currently have any intentions to change.
