NIIT University Appoints Academician Prof Prakash Gopalan as President; Check Details Here

New Delhi: Prof Prakash Gopalan, a distinguished academician, has been appointed as the new President of NIIT University. Prof Gopalan has worked with IIT Mumbai for over 26 years and holds a PhD from Purdue University in the United States and an M.Tech from IIT Kanpur. 

Prof Gopalan will create NIIT University's vision and lead its educational and research missions in collaboration with academics, personnel, and the founders, Shri Rajendra Pawar and Shri Vijay Thadani.

Shri Rajendra S Pawar and Shri Vijay Thadani, visionaries, cooperated with our country's greatest thought leaders to build a new model of higher education that is relevant to the industry requirements of the twenty-first century. 

NIIT University is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 through four basic principles: strong linkages with industry, technology-based education, a research-driven attitude, and a fluid interface between diverse departments.

Prof Prakash Gopalan has taught over 12 key courses at IIT Mumbai for over 26 years and was awarded the Best Teacher Award in 2000. 

From September 2005 to September 2011, he served as Dean of Student Affairs at IIT Mumbai, where he focused on improving student well-being and discipline, introducing innovative improvements to student counselling and mentorship programmes, and earning the unique distinction of being invited to serve a second term based on exceptional performance feedback from the IIT Mumbai student community.

Prof. Gopalan, in collaboration with Prof. Bart Kahr, has solved a crystallographic problem that had defied the solution for more than two centuries. This paper has received several citations in the chemical science literature. 

He has 71 articles in internationally recognised journals to his name, as well as 29 papers at national and international conferences. Prof Gopalan was a Director at Thapar University. He has also worked as a visiting professor at Purdue University and Northwestern University.
