Odisha Government Introduces Bond For Doctors To Serve Minimum Two Years In Government Hospitals

New Delhi: The Odisha Government introduces a two-year bond with doctors passing out from government colleges to retain them in service for at least two years to address the shortage. 

The bond will apply to candidates who are seeking admission in Government Medical Colleges, either under state quota or all India quota in PG Diploma, Doctorate National Board, Diplomate National Board, MS, MDS, MD and DM/M.Ch. courses or any other courses in the State.

According to the official notification, the candidate should serve for two years after completing their medical PG courses. Only after completing these two years, the students will be released from government medical colleges

The penalty for defaulters will be double the amount of stipend received during the study period. Any student leaving the course midway through completion will result in a lapse of a seat and will be liable for a penalty of INR 10 Lakh and the amount of stipend received by the date of leaving the course.

DMET Director, Sachidananda Mohanty said, ‘The rule will be enforced in private medical colleges as well. The government aims to provide healthcare to everyone. A penalty of twice the stipend is not a big one. It will help to bring in more doctors in public service.’
