The Haryana Government announced that schools in the state would remain shut till November 30. This decision came as more than 170 students and around 107 teachers tested positive for the Covid virus in just the last two weeks.

The state had previously announced that they would open schools keeping in mind the guidelines of the state and the center. But in spite of their best efforts, cases of the virus in students spiked exponentially and the state was forced to close the schools once again.

The schools in the state were open only for students of classes 9 to 12. Regular classes were started on November 2. The authorities had assured the parents that proper sanitization would be done in every school and classroom. On the assurance given by the institutes, more than 1.58 lakh students out of 6 lakh were attending classes.

A curious fact about the spike in infection was that all the infected students were from the government schools of three districts only. However, to avoid any more complications, the state decided to act preemptively and stop regular classes across the state.

The Directorate of State Education said in an order that the schools would once again be sanitized properly and regularly to prevent a major outbreak among the student population when the schools reopen on November 30.

Haryana is not the only state that was forced to close down schools after re-opening them. Maharashtra too was forced to close down schools under the jurisdiction of the civic body till December 31. This measure came due to the increasing number of new cases of the Covid virus.

The news of the closing of schools came even as Haryana reported nearly 2000 new Covid-19 cases across the state on Thursday which took the total infected in the state to more than 2 lakhs. However, most of these infected patients have been discharged and Haryana only has around 20000 active cases.

Schools around the country have been shut for months due to lockdowns imposed because of the outbreak. As such, many students are in a state of confusion over their future and the next steps to take. Haryana like many other states has shifted to online classes but many people are unable to avail of such services.
