New Delhi: As per the Interim Union Budget 2024, the Department of Higher Education has allocated a budget of INR 47,619 Crore in the fiscal year 2024-25. The Skill India Mission trained over 1.4 Crore Youth, established over 3000 new ITIs, and upskilled over 54 lakh youth

According to the Interim Budget 2024, seven IITs and sixteen Indian Institute of Information Technology (IITs) were established this year. Additionally, the budget given for IITs has seen an increase from INR 9,661 to INR 10324.50 Cr

The budget outlay for the Indian Institute of Science, Education, and Research (IISERs) has also seen a rise from INR 815.40 Cr in 2023-24 to INR 918.27 Cr in 2024-25

Financial Minister Sitharaman said, ‘our government has planned to set up more medical colleges to utilize the existing hospital infrastructure under various departments. A committee for the same purpose will be set up to examine the issues related to the topic and make relevant recommendations”.

In her speech about the Interim Budget 2024-25, Sitharaman talked about empowering the youth, and female enrollment in higher education has now gone up to 28% in the previous 10 years. In STEM courses, girls and women make up 43% of enrollment, which is one of the highest in the world.
