Sharp Dip in Registrations This Year
2020 witnessed a record low of about 56.07 lakh students registered for the board examination which is almost 1.89 lakh less compared to previous year. This is about 3.35% lower than last year. While in 2019 approximately 57,95,756 students registered, in 2018 alone there were 66,39,268 registrations.
- The cause behind this dip according to a board official is the strict measurement methods undertaken by the authorities. These measurements which started in 2017 included installment of CCTV cameras in all centres, arresting cheating mafias from all over the state, and using voice recording devices were meant to ensure fairer means of conducting the same.
- A webcasting system that would help the authorities to monitor the ongoing examinations would also be introduced. The board officials believe these measurements would reduce malpractices which have been quite common in the state for a long time. The board office which is located in Allahabad will be in charge of monitoring this entire process.
Status of Paper Evaluation
According to Nina Srivastava, the evaluation work has been completed in 75 districts which includes 281 centres. The examination which began from February 18 concluded on March 3 and 6 for high school and intermediate levels respectively.

- It was thereafter resumed eventually in 20 green zones from May 5, in orange districts on May 12 and in red districts it resumed from May 19.
- In high school 1,80,19,863 answer sheets were evaluated while in intermediate level the number was 1,29,41,714.
