BA Business Administration and Information Technology, Ryerson University

Choosing between universities can be a tough decision, but here are some factors to consider when deciding between the University of Western Ontario and Ryerson University for the Faculty of Engineering:

  • Program Offerings: Both universities offer a range of engineering programs, but it's important to look at the specific programs that interest you. Consider the program curriculum, course options, and the types of hands-on experiences available.
  • Location: The location of the university can be an important factor to consider. The University of Western Ontario is located in London, a smaller city in southwestern Ontario, while Ryerson University is located in the heart of downtown Toronto. Consider what type of environment you prefer, as well as transportation options and cost of living.
  • Campus Culture: Each university has its own unique campus culture, so it's important to consider which one will be the best fit for you. Look at factors such as campus size, student life, extracurricular activities, and campus diversity.
  • Reputation: While both universities are well-respected, the University of Western Ontario is consistently ranked higher in overall university rankings. However, Ryerson University has a strong reputation for its engineering programs and its connections to the industry.
  • Career Opportunities: It's important to consider the career opportunities available to you after graduation. Research what types of companies and industries recruit from each university, and what career support services are available.

The decision between the University of Western Ontario and Ryerson University will depend on your individual preferences and goals. Consider all of these factors and visit each campus if possible to get a better sense of which university is the best fit for you.

Which is the best college to apply for a one-year construction management course in Canada, George Brown, Centennial, or Fanshawe? Do all three offer internships?

PG
Palak Goyal Posted On : February 8th, 2024
Lives in New Delhi

My brother is currently pursuing the Construction Engineering Technician (T161) course from George Brown College. It is a two year course, and an extra year places it into an advanced diploma (T105).

George Brown offers plenty of job opportunities from a variety of construction companies across Canada. The college regularly holds a job fair in which prominent companies like Bird Construction, Aecon, EllisDon, PCL, etc. take part. A large number of alumni from our college work at one or the other of these reputed companies.

All the three colleges offer internships, but according to my brother, George Brown is a better option for the construction management program.

What is your review of McGill University?

AR
Anish Raman Posted On : January 13th, 2021
Studied Literature & Political Science at McGill University (2020)

McGill University is undoubtedly a good place with world-class facility. It is one of the leading universities in North America. It is very competitive and has a broad student support system. The University admits students from all over the globe so you won’t feel out of place here. There were various nationalities and many students communicating 2-4 languages.

On average, McGill graduates earn around 40,000 CAD to 108,000 CAD and are placed within 3-6 months of completing their studies. However, the support services for students and their administration staff might not meet your standards. Also, the atmosphere here can be a bit too intense because of their reputation and constant efforts to maintain their standing.

Admission wise, being one of Canada's highest-ranking universities, the GPA and admission criteria is also very high. It has an acceptance rate of 41%, an articulate essay and strong recommendations are important. It’s located in Montreal which is a splendid city with great restaurants, nightclubs, and world-class museums a stone's throw from it.

McGill is an excellent place providing lots of courses, financial help, facilities, and a good support system. There’s a wide variety of highly skilled faculty for pharmacy, psychology, healthcare, the business sector, sciences, education, engineering, music, arts, law, environmental and agriculture, computer sciences and many more.

The dorms are located near the hill and the lake, suitable for comfort in the autumn and spring and for skating and hot chocolate in the winter. Some of the sleeping places are situated next to the Mond Royal, the Montreal "Central Park" featuring footpaths, cycling pads, and skiing trails. The stunning mountains are within 2 hours for climbing and skiing. Students are crucial, lessons are rigorous.

CM
Christie MacOwen Posted On : February 3rd, 2021
Works at Ryerson University

Ryerson is slowly and steadily gaining its reputation and receives an incredible amount of applications every year. It ranks #27 among the global universities in Canada as per US News and #801-1000 in the world by QS World Ranking. The university is known for having the top journalism school and recently added a unique sports media program which is the first of its kind in North America. The sports media program teaches students how to excel in sport management, sports journalism, live production, sports journalism and more.

It won’t be fair to judge it solely through rankings though- it is hard to rank because it has many unique programs. It doesn't compete with sheer talents like U&T and McGill, rather compete in their unique nature and focus of their programs. The university maintains a great reputation with the employers with its career-focused programs.

Their leading programs are in the subjects of Business, Arts, Communication and Design, Community Services, and Engineering. There are also some specialised programs only for international students with the Ryerson ESL Foundation Program.

As for the academic ranking of Ryerson, it depends upon the type of programs you want to enrol in. It is very highly regarded for programs like Nursing, Journalism, and Radio & Television Arts. THE World University Rankings 2021 by the subjects are:

Overall, Ryerson University is a potential choice if you are planning to go into journalism, technology, or MBA it is often considered on par with other universities as it has been ranked among the top 800 universities in almost every subject with an employment rate of 86.7%.

Why is Carleton University a good school?

NT
Nathan Turmel Posted On : January 12th, 2021
B.A Law & Business, Carleton University

There are many reasons to embrace Carleton both overall as well as in specific areas. The University has been ranked between #601-651 by QS World Ranking 2021 and offers A-class facilities along with top-notch infrastructure. It's an established university with proud scholar chairs.

The college is linked by underground tunnels and helps you to navigate smoothly, especially during harsh winters. One striking feature is it is the only university in Canada to specifically cater to disabled students- be in class, residents or the entire campus.

It's journalism school is world-renowned and the university is also known for its economic and business programs. It also provides a full-time BA program in Social Work as well as a deal with Ottawa that lets you take credits in French at the university itself.

It was also one of the earliest Canadian Universities offering distance education along with its 'Tapes To You' program where the classes were recorded and mailed to students in case you missed those classes.

Carleton always holds an advantage as it's placed in Ottawa, which is relatively cheaper in terms of cost of living and a bit less in terms of extreme weather conditions. The university prepares its students for real-world jobs to critically think and shape the world and even facilitates them with ample internship and industrial opportunities in some of its collaborating tech companies at Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, etc. Microsoft, Google, Grey Matter, and Government Agencies including CIA, GAO, etc. are some of the major collaborators and top recruiters of Carleton University.

The university's unique programs, which you won't find anywhere else, prove it to be the best of the rest. Bagging with over thousands of Research projects and more than 55 million CAD in sponsored funding, the university stands to be more prominent than others.

Over 42 million in scholarships and bursaries are awarded to undergraduate students for excellence in academics and curriculum. With an impressive graduate employment rate of over 92.1% Carleton lands some of its students in top-paying jobs in Canada. Lastly, the campus is beautiful and outside the city center but also open to a lot of job opportunities.

Is George Brown a better college than Algonquin College?

PG
Prateek Ghose Posted On : January 13th, 2021
Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology

Both George Brown College and Algonquin College are among the top public colleges in Canada. Securing 4654th position in the World Ranking List. In many practical aspects GBC is definitely a better college than Algonquin. First of all, it has an advantage due to its location- it is located in downtown Toronto which is a prime location and a better place for students to live and look for opportunities.

Ranking and reputation wise as well, it outranks Algonquin. Also, it is recommended that you opt for a 2 year program so that there is enough time for you to get a work permit. Since the fees may be high for some, it will help you make it more affordable. George Brown College offers a variety of programs in the field of :Engineering Technology, Health Science, Arts and Culture, Finance, Hospitality and many more.

The following table gives a brief comparison of both colleges:

Just like George Brown College, Algonquin College provides various full-time and part-time coop oriented programs in the domains of arts, engineering, technology, medical sciences, management and more.

If you are academically better and still have a chance to improve your grades and GRE scores, then it's better to apply for universities instead of colleges. This will be more helpful for you in the long run.
