I think both colleges have their pros and cons, but I personally prefer IGIMS for the MBBS course. The campus is spacious, and we have access to a good library and various sports facilities. The curriculum is designed to provide practical experience from early on, which is crucial for us as future doctors.
While the fee structure is a bit high, the quality of education and the overall environment make it worth it. PMCH might have its own appeal, but for me, IGIMS offers a better academic and extracurricular experience.
I would say IGIMS is better than PMCH in terms of academic exposure and college life, especially for the MBBS course. The faculty-to-student ratio is quite good, around 1:2, and the faculty members are very supportive and knowledgeable. They use modern teaching methods, which helps in understanding the subjects thoroughly.
Plus, the campus life is vibrant with events like CEREBEXIA, which features big celebrities, and there are plenty of opportunities for sports and extracurricular activities. Overall, IGIMS provides a well-rounded experience.
IGIMS, being a semi-government institution, isn't the top pick for many people. Let me give you a rundown on PMCH:
Academics:
PMCH has pretty solid academics compared to other schools. Professors really focus on students in the first year. From the second year onward, classes are well-organized but a bit more relaxed. There's a healthy level of competition too.
Exposure:
The clinical teaching is impressive. Seniors and professors actively teach in the wards, so you're not left on your own. The patient load is high, which means you get great clinical exposure and a better chance to learn directly from patients.
College Life:
Life on campus is mixed with the presence of L&T workers due to ongoing reconstruction. This can make daily movement around the campus a bit tricky. Everything like hostels, the canteen, the library, and the hospital is all in one area without clear boundaries. So, your college life will include interactions with patients, their families, random visitors, workers, and engineers.
Fests and events are celebrated with lots of enthusiasm, although the venues and methods are changing because of the construction. For anyone considering PMCH over other colleges in Bihar, I suggest visiting the campus to see if you're ready to spend 5.5 years here.
If you’re not opting for AIIMS Patna in Bihar, I'd recommend PMCH.
Location:
The main markets like Patna Market, Khazanchi Road, Govind Mitra Road, and Sabzibagh are nearby, and the connectivity is decent. You can head to Marine Drive via the new JP Setu for a relaxing weekend. The Ganga Ghaat is still the best spot.

PMCH has its strengths, but IGIMS really stands out in terms of practical exposure, especially for the MBBS course. The internship opportunities are great, and we get a stipend of Rs. 30,000 per month during our internship, which is quite motivating. Also, the college organizes various cultural and sports events, making college life more enjoyable. The library is also well-stocked, which is a big plus for studying. In comparison, PMCH may not offer the same level of support and facilities.
