How is Vidyalankar Institute of Technology for a B.Tech. CE? Should I get myself admitted there just because it is near my home? I am getting RAIT, VESIT, KJS, SION.

I have been studying at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology for my BTech in Electronics and Telecom Engineering, and I would say it's a mixed bag. The faculty is quite knowledgeable, and most of them are PhD holders. The overall campus life is good, with various events like the annual fest "Verve" which is quite popular.

The fees are around 1,34,000 for general category students, but OBC students like me pay around 75,739. However, the placement scene is not very strong in the EXTC branch, with many students preparing for GATE instead. If you're looking at other colleges like RAIT or VESIT, you might want to weigh your options based on placement opportunities.

I would say Vidyalankar Institute of Technology (VIT) for BTech in Computer Engineering is a decent choice, especially since it's close to home. The college has a pretty good curriculum that focuses on practical applications, which is great. The average package for placements is around 4 to 5 lakh per annum, and companies like TCS and Infosys visit for recruitment.

However, I have noticed that sometimes the placements can be a bit hit or miss, with some students opting for higher studies instead. If you are looking for a college that is not too far and provides a reasonable education, VIT could work out well for you.

Need more details? Alright. The institute is packed with arrogant "professors" who only know what they learned during their BE or ME but act like they've got loads of patents and research papers. Many of them studied here and stayed because they couldn't find better opportunities elsewhere. They act like they own the students, even though we pay the fees. They obsess over things like attendance, journal submission dates, journal size, font style, and assignments. If something doesn't meet their liking, they'll ask you to redo it, costing more time and money even after you've paid your fees.

Some even boast in class that they don't care if the syllabus is completed on time if attendance isn't perfect or if notes aren't memorized word for word. Because of this, important subjects often get left unfinished. Extracurricular activities are almost non-existent. It feels like there should be a big sign outside saying, "Attend lectures or leave the college." The director seems satisfied with mass recruitment to enhance learning and activities but quickly assumes a student is arguing if they try to answer a question.

And since April 2018, they've introduced a mentor form system where you have to chase after your mentor (who may not even know who they are mentoring). The form records your attendance in all classes, and the professors' egos often flare up over this.

You might also want to talk to current students from different departments. You'll hear complaints about all departments except for computers, because it's the top-performing computer students who end up becoming these college and coaching "professors."

If you want to build a timid and obedient shell, go ahead and join VIT. I'm a student there myself.

In my opinion, VESIT and RAIT are definitely better choices compared to the others you mentioned. When it comes to job placements, VESIT holds a slight edge. But honestly, what really counts is how much you enjoy your time at college. At RAIT, you’ll find a wide range of opportunities, both technical and non-technical, like sports, managing events, cultural festivals, and job placements. Unfortunately, I’m not too familiar with KJS Sion.

Now, about VIT, it seems pretty average. The infrastructure might look impressive, but that's about it. Compared to VESIT and RAIT, it doesn’t quite match up in terms of quality. The job placements are just okay, and the teaching staff, except for a few, aren't quite what you’d hope for.

So, if you’re really into tech and placements are your main focus, VESIT is a solid choice. However, if you want to grow in various areas, like organizing events and giving presentations to strengthen your resume, RAIT would be a great fit.

Also, I wouldn’t worry too much about the travel distance. Choosing a college based on its quality is more important than its location. Plus, getting to Chembur or Nerul is just a train ride away, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Best of luck with your decision!
