It really depends on the specialty chosen for PG.

  • Many PGs end up teaching in medical colleges or working in hospitals.
  • The reality is, they often can't lead a lavish lifestyle.
  • They have to be content with the salary they receive.

So, if a high-paying job is your main goal, consider your specialty carefully!

Honestly, doing an MBBS at AIIMS Delhi is totally worth it if you're aiming for a high-paying job in the medical field. The exposure during the internship in the 5th year is amazing. You get to learn from experienced doctors and work with the latest medical equipment. Plus, the stipend of around ?30,000 during your internship is one of the highest in the country. The curriculum is rigorous but prepares you well for real-life medical challenges. With AIIMS being the top medical college, the reputation alone can open so many doors for you in the future.

Well, most doctors, especially on Quora, will say NO for obvious reasons. They'll point to the typical government salary for doctors at AIIMS, which is around 80k a month.

But let's look at it from a different angle. An AIIMS Delhi graduate is a rare find. They can easily set up a clinic in tier 2 cities and charge around 300 rs per patient for consultations. This fee is quite reasonable, considering the prestige of the AIIMS tag, right? Now, if they see around 80 patients a day—which is quite normal—they could make around 80 * 300 = 24k a day. That totals to about 7.2 LAKH a month. Even after cutting down infrastructure costs, they could net around 5 lakhs.

And I haven't even factored in the referral fees from pathology labs and pharmacy companies, which is also very common. So, overall, a doctor could easily earn 7–8 lakhs a month if they work smartly, and that’s without engaging in any unethical practices.

However, many AIIMS doctors choose to go to the US, where the average physician earns around $300k a year and enjoys a lot of respect.

But the reality can be different, especially in tier 3 cities and villages, like in Bihar, where doctors are highly sought after.
