MNNIT Allahabad offers a solid B.Tech in Biotechnology with strong placement rates and diverse extracurricular activities, but the faculty can be hit or miss. In contrast, PEC Chandigarh's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering shines with excellent internship opportunities, a well-rounded curriculum, and top-tier tech company placements, which is a big advantage if you're into coding and tech jobs.

Both colleges have their strengths, but if you're passionate about tech and want to maximize your job prospects, I'd personally lean towards PEC Chandigarh for its robust industry connections and focused academic environment. However, if you have a keen interest in biotechnology and want a broader educational experience, MNNIT could still be a great choice.

MNNIT’s biotechnology department is the newest addition. There’s no disrespect towards the students currently enrolled in biotech. The department has:

  • Experienced and friendly faculty: The faculty-to-student ratio is impressive, with around 13 full-time faculty and one visiting faculty member, most holding PhDs from top institutes across the country (AIIMS, IITs, IISc). They are knowledgeable and helpful—if you're willing to learn! Faculty members frequently attend conferences at various foreign universities and even send undergrad students for poster presentations.
  • Well-equipped labs: The labs are still undergoing upgrades (last I heard, the department received two grants of Rs. 3 million each for instruments), but they are currently adequate for undergrad work and to some extent for post-grad research.
  • Decent placements: Not many core companies visit the campus, but consultancy firms and educational institutes allow biotech students to participate in placement interviews. Around 35-40 companies permit biotech students to sit for placements, which is more than the number of students.
  • Talented researchers and research facilities.

Honestly, if you're aiming for strong job prospects, B.Tech Computer Science Engineering at PEC Chandigarh seems to have the edge over B.Tech Biotechnology at MNNIT Allahabad. PEC has a solid record of placements with top tech companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Goldman Sachs regularly recruiting from there. While MNNIT has a decent placement rate of over 90% and a high average package, the tech companies that come for CSE students at PEC are more prominent, which can lead to better opportunities. If you're passionate about coding and want to dive into the tech industry, PEC is likely the better choice. However, if biotechnology excites you and you see a future there, MNNIT can also provide good options, but be prepared for a more competitive internship landscape.

If you're looking at B.Tech Biotechnology in MNNIT Allahabad versus B.Tech Computer Science Engineering in PEC Chandigarh, MNNIT offers substantial scholarships based on family income, making it a financially appealing option if you qualify. With an average package of 19.7 LPA and over 90% placement rates, the ROI seems solid. On the other hand, PEC has strong tech placements with top companies like Microsoft and Amazon, but the fee structure is around Rs.91,300 per semester, which is higher than MNNIT if you count the scholarships. If you're more inclined towards biotech and can leverage the scholarships at MNNIT, that might be the smarter financial choice. However, if you’re leaning toward a tech career and coding, PEC could yield a better return in the long run. Ultimately, it depends on your career focus and financial situation.

PEC is definitely not degrading!

A college is defined by its students, and there's an incredible diversity of talent, ambitions, and dreams every year. You can learn so much from everyone in such an environment. PEC isn’t just a mainstream “future obsessed” institution where everyone is focused on one thing; it’s an activity-intensive, multidisciplinary, club-cultured platform. There’s always something happening that will capture your interest. Plus, the tricity area is fantastic for getting out, learning, and exploring!

That said, there are no shortcomings in academics or job opportunities. Especially for CSE, the faculty is hardworking and knowledgeable. There’s a wealth of study material available through assignments and lab activities. However, many students overlook this and end up blaming the faculty and college.

There’s a strong record of companies visiting the campus for placements, offering attractive salaries from firms like Salesforce, Microsoft, Amazon, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and Arcesium. But remember, it’s up to the students to seize these opportunities. No one is going to hand them jobs!

Additionally, there’s a solid track record of students cracking competitive exams and securing great positions.
