In terms of placements and internships, BITS Pilani's BE Mechanical Engineering seems to have a slight edge over DTU's B.Tech Mathematics and Computing. BITS has a solid reputation for high CGPA-driven placements, with companies like Adobe offering lucrative internships with stipends up to 1 lakh, while DTU also has impressive companies visiting like Google and Microsoft but tends to have more competition for placements. Both have similar fee structures and scholarship availability, but DTU's tech-focused curriculum in Mathematics and Computing may appeal more if you're inclined towards tech. If you’re aiming for a tech career and can handle a rigorous math curriculum, DTU is great, but if you want broader engineering opportunities with established placement records, BITS Pilani is likely the better choice.

Both DTU B.Tech Mathematics and Computing and BITS Pilani BE Mechanical Engineering have their strengths, but I’d lean towards DTU for its strong emphasis on tech-related placements and a really active campus life. The updated curriculum at DTU is tailored for future job markets, and the internship opportunities are impressive, with big names like Adobe offering substantial stipends. Meanwhile, BITS has a solid reputation and a beautiful campus but might not match DTU’s hands-on approach in tech fields. If you’re keen on a tech career and want a vibrant student experience, DTU is the way to go; if you're more inclined towards traditional engineering and can thrive in a competitive environment, BITS would suit you better.

When looking at fees and ROI, both DTU's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing and BITS Pilani's BE in Mechanical Engineering have similar tuition fees of around 10 lakh for four years, but the placements and internship opportunities vary significantly. DTU has impressive companies like Google and Microsoft visiting for campus placements, with the highest package reaching 1.25 crore, which suggests a strong return on investment. In contrast, while BITS Pilani also offers good placements, the focus on CGPA might limit opportunities for some students, especially in non-tech branches.

Given the strong industry connections and placement statistics of DTU, I’d recommend DTU for those looking for a more lucrative financial outcome, especially if you're inclined towards tech. However, if you have a strong passion for mechanical engineering and are willing to navigate the CGPA landscape, BITS Pilani is still a solid choice.

TL;DR: Go for BITS Pilani!

Long Answer
I partially agree with the previous answer. Nowadays, the branch you choose matters a lot compared to the college you select, but it’s still crucial to pick a reputed college for your education. First, keep one thing in mind: if you want a good job (and by good job, I mean one that pays well), you must focus on the IT sector. I’m not saying you can’t get a decent job in other industries, but the chances are lower. Manufacturing and other core sectors are still in their early stages in India.

Now, addressing your question: being a BITSian, I recommend joining BITS if you can get into Computer Science or Information Systems. Even if your BITSAT score isn’t enough for a single degree in CS/IS, opt for a dual degree. You might wonder why study for one more year, but trust me, if you manage to get CS as your dual degree, your placements will be on par with those of single degree CS/IS students.

Now, if your goal isn’t to secure a high-paying job (believe me, many prioritize other factors), and you’re not interested in joining an IT firm or absolutely dislike coding, then…

In Short: Choose BITS any day!

Detailed:
To compare the two colleges, let’s look at all the important factors:

1) PLACEMENT:
Placements at BITS are significantly better than at DTU. Here are some advantages:

  • i) At BITS, almost every company allows all branches to participate in placements, while at DTU, only Computer Engineering, IT, and Software branches are eligible for all companies. ECE and MCE can apply to around 70% of companies, and EE and EP can approach roughly 40-50% of companies. P.S.: A few companies, like Uber and Google, are open to all branches.
  • ii) DTU has about 700 students in Computer Science or related branches (IT, SE) and an additional 300 in ECE and MCE, making placements more competitive. Recruiters hire a fixed number of graduates from DTU. In contrast, BITS has no such hiring limitations. Additionally, the number of students at DTU is nearly double that at BITS.
  • iii) Package: Some companies, such as Goldman Sachs, offer packages of 32 LPA at BITS and IITs compared to 23 LPA at DTU, NSIT, NITs, etc.
  • iv) Companies: All companies that visit DTU also visit BITS; however, companies like Apple and Cisco exclusively recruit from BITS.
  • v) Internships: BITS offers a 6-month internship compared to just 2 months at DTU.
