AIIMS Delhi clearly stands out when it comes to internships and career outcomes. The medical internship begins in the 5th year, offering students hands-on experience with seasoned doctors and access to state-of-the-art equipment, plus a lucrative stipend of around Rs.30,000, which is among the highest in the country. KGMU, while reputable, doesn’t quite match the extensive clinical exposure and resources available at AIIMS. The curriculum at AIIMS also emphasizes a high level of clinical training from early on, making graduates more competitive in the job market. If you're aiming for an exceptional medical career with robust internship opportunities, AIIMS Delhi is the better choice; however, if you prefer a more relaxed environment and a solid education, KGMU can still be a good fit.
KGMU was established in 1905 and became fully operational in 1911. So it has a legacy of over 110 years. It is located in the heart of UP, i.e., Lucknow. It ranks 11th in the NIRF ranking (61.68).
Now, talking about AIIMS Delhi:
For general category admissions, AIIMS Delhi closes around the rank of 50s. KGMU for general through AIQ closes at about 1500–1600.
Let me tell you, KGMU has its own legacy. It stands firm in the field of Indian medicine and holds its ground against any other AIIMS or GMCs. However, AIIMS Delhi is the pinnacle of Indian medicine. It is a giant in this regard and holds no comparison to any other college.
Though personal views on which is better may vary, AIIMS Delhi is undoubtedly the best among all.
I don't think there's much to debate here—it's clearly KGMU!
Edit: Since all state government colleges have a government service bond, it's better to choose central government institutions like AIIMS, which don’t have a bond.
AIIMS Delhi is clearly the better financial choice when you look at fees, ROI, and overall value for money compared to KGMU. With a total fee of only 5,856 rupees for five years, AIIMS offers an incredibly low cost of education while providing a top-notch curriculum and clinical exposure, plus a stipend of 30,000 during internships, which is among the highest in the country. KGMU may have its own strengths, but the financial burden is likely to be higher, and without the same level of financial support or opportunities. If you're focused on making a smart investment in your medical career, AIIMS Delhi is the way to go.
Hello reader, I was in this dilemma last year too... whether to choose new AIIMS or the top state colleges. I made a decision, and honestly, I think I made a wrong choice. It’s not that I regret taking new AIIMS, but top state colleges (especially from UP, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra) would’ve been a better option. I had three options at my rank: AFMC, top state colleges of UP, and AIIMS 2019. The choice I made then: 2019 AIIMS > UP state top 3–4 colleges > AFMC > Rest state colleges. The choice I would make now (after learning a lot more since last year): AFMC > UP state top 3–4 colleges > 2019 AIIMS > Rest state colleges. Well, since the question isn’t about AFMC, I won’t dive into that. The question is not about which one is better... it’s pretty clear KGMC is better. It’s more about which one is a more feasible choice.
