Remarks

If you are going to Jamia Millia Islamia, do not expect any exposure. Once, graduated you'll get to know that you have now come out of the shell. Jamia is not just a University, it's sort of a state in itself. Also, the process of getting a provisional certificate or migration certificate is damn tedious. I've almost cried every day pleading them to dispatch my certificates as soon as possible. They work like sloths in the Controller of Examination branch. Apart from the negatives, you'll be blessed with amazing friends. The biggest Negative Remark - You can not score high like any other University. Do not compare your marks with DU students. Professors in Chemistry Department do not give more than 75%. If you are getting 70% in Jamia, it's equivalent to scoring 85% in DU with the same pressure and hard work.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Course Curriculum - beware. Now the real hustle begins. You will have to prepare for 10 theory subjects and the labs of course. Theory includes 3 subjects of chemistry, 2 physics, 2 maths, english, Indian Religious Studies/ Hinduism/ Islamiat and Urdu. Now there is a new system CBCS so you'll be having new subjects as well as there will be an option to choose between subjects. The structure of curriculum is now revised but is almost taught in the same old way. Exam - these are also hectic. You'll be given 4-5 holidays between two theory papers so generally the exam process takes a month to end. You definitely can get pissed in between. Also, if you've good rattafying power, you're blessed. In one semester, you've to give 2 sessionals (internals) and 1 semester (external) exams. Best of two marks in sessional will be reflected in your marksheet. Every exam be it sessional or semester is conducted in the University only. Most Important - for semester exams you have to maintain 75% attendance, otherwise you'll not get the admit card and you have to pass in sessional exams.

Placement Experience

0.5

No, Nil and Nothing. However, you can get placements & job opportunities in other streams. But definitely not from Natural Sciences. You don't even get any exposure. 9am-5pm classes and repeat. The target is only to pass in semester exams and then study hard to get admission in Msc and eventually then in a PhD from a reputed University like IIT, DU, HCU, IISc, BHU.

College Events

3.5

Annual Fest - MIRAS. It is really good. People participate and also work as volunteers (but definitely from other streams). There are annual fests of different departments like Economics- ECOCRACY and Commerce - COMMERCIALESE. Nothing happens in Natural Sciences - you only have to focus on studies. Also, if you wish to participate in any of the event as volunteers - You are not going to get any relaxation of attendance. There is an inter faculty sports competition where you can participate but you will not get any participation certificate neither any relaxation in attendance. The time for practice will not be given - you have to manage everything on your own. I'm telling all this from my own experience. I've been a Coordinator in Ecocracy and Commercialese. Also, I've played basketball every year in the Inter Faculty Basketball Tournament.

Fees and Financial Aid

There is no scholarship available. Also, the fees are affordable so I've not seen any case of Loan. If you are a topper in your batch, then you can ask for a scholarship stating the financial condition of your family.

Campus Life

Annual Fest - MIRAS. It is really good. People participate and also work as volunteers (but definitely from other streams). There are annual fests of different departments like Economics- ECOCRACY and Commerce - COMMERCIALESE. Nothing happens in Natural Sciences. There is also an Inter-Faculty Sports tournament every year. Also, if you are good at sports you can look up to the selection in the University Team.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Nope, I'm a Delhite. So, there was no need for a Hostel. Though my friends told me that the Hostel is really good. It is clean, affordable and lively- both girls and boys. Though the entry of the opposite gender is not permissible in the respective hostels.

Alumni/Alumna

There is no official Alumni network and as such no reunion happens. So, if you have know your seniors, then you can contact them. Seniors are really helpful, they provide their notes, question papers and provide help in every possible way. Also, enhancing your knowledge by telling their own or their batchmate's experiences. But then there are people who are really shy and do not talk. Since Jamia is somewhat an Orthodox University in Delhi, so some people there generally are conserved. Also, people mostly are from UP & Bihar. So, it's better to see and observe people before talking to them.

Admission

You can only get admission in this University via Entrance Exam conducted by this University in the month of June. Usually, the entrance exam for BSC (every subject) is conducted in the university only, if you have selected the center of examination as Delhi. Also, there is a quota of Muslims, Muslim women, Muslim OBC, Kashmiris so generally it is really tough for other Caste to secure an admission seat. After the display of first selected candidates, they will be given 3-4 days to submit the required documents. Then the second list comes. The admission process is not hectic though. You will be asked for documents and some affidavits which you can get from Makhtaba (a shop near Indian Bank).

Faculty

3.5

The faculty of Natural Sciences is divided into 3 - physics, maths and Chemistry. You may find good professors in Physics. Professors in Maths are tolerable too. In Chemistry, some professors are like satans (sorry for the term) they have no interest in providing you any exposure, knowledge or an experience of research. They can bully students and you can not complain about it because everyone is so connected in the system, no one will listen to you or they will use it for internal rivalries/ politics. They don't like you to participate in any extra curricular activities, they only expect you to come and attend the classes. For Example - one of my professor in the third year told us that "Students who are pursuing Chemistry should only concentrate on the studies, guitar or any other activity is not for them." Also, if you have not attended the classes, they will not give you marks even if you have written down the best possible answer. I remember one more incident - I am having an asthmatic problem so I can not travel in the month of Autumn. For the same reason, I didn't go for the trip in my last year, and a small trip to IIT Delhi was organized for me with other MSC students. I really paid a huge amount- I got a C where other students got an A. On the other hand, there are good professors too, who can guide you, clear your doubts and understand your problems. So, it's better to categorize them first into the two categories - Mentors & Satans. Beware of Satans, do not argue with them and do not ask them for any favour - they'll only insult you or will ask you to drop down the idea.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum consists of relatable topics and interesting ones as well this is what quite influenced me to take this course. We have labs which help us learn how to prepare various organic compounds which are used in many day to day products . The course also has a 4th year research program. There should be more equipments in lab for the research. The frequency is good for exams being conducted and there level is also quite good

The students become eligible for the placements provided by the college in their 3rd year, while they can pursue internship offered by the college in previous years. Average sized companies visited the campus with lots of students being placed for jobs. The highest package I am not aware of but lowest was of around 300000 pa. I plan to pursue masters after my graduation degree.

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester. I don't know a lot about campus placements but I know that there is a training and placement cell in our college that provides good packages to many students. Some students got more than 7lpa last year. I will be doing my Post graduation after college and will make a career in academics.
