Review of a final year CSE student

My college is overall good and focuses on the academics of students and also encourages students to find a balance between academics and extra curricular activities. The seniors are helpful and friendly too. The faculty members are approachable and help students with various projects.

The course curriculum is properly planned and it helps a students learn a lot. During the first year, the students are given an introduction of the C language. The second year is made to focus on Data structures and Algorithms. Subjects like Database Management systems, Operating systems, Automata are introduced in third year while the fourth year is all about the subject Compilers and the elctive choices. There are a wide range of electives to choose from such as Data Mining, Big data, Web development, Machine Learning etc. a student an choose an elective of his or her choice during the final year.

The placements and job opportunities are very average. The companies paying higher packages do not come for campus placement in college. All the students from CSE background are all generally placed with an average salary, however if they want higher packages, they need to work hard and apply off campus. College generally does not provide internship. However, the few selected extremely good students can take the help of the faculty members to secure an Internship in top Institutes or firms. Moreover, one or two companies are also called by the college for selecting interns from the college. I did not get any internship through college.

There are various events celebrated in my college: 1) Fests- Technical fest (Daksh) involves various competitions related to coding and technology. Cultural fest (Eclecia) involves dance, music, ffashion shows, DJ performance and performance by renowned Bollywood celebrity. 2) There are various events conducted by the various clubs in college. 3) There are performances to celebrate the beginning of Durga Puja festival. 4) There is a fresher's day organized for the first year students every year.

The fee structure is feasible in my college. The fees per semester is variable but it is pretty much feasible as compared to that of other engineering colleges in India. It ranges from rupees 35000 to 45000 per semester.

The college provides a fellowship to few of the students on the basis of their academic records. However, a students needs to be a domicile of West Bengal to avail that scholarship. This fellowship covers their semester fees i.e. a student has to pay zero or negligible semester fees.

The college supports extracurricular activities too. There are various events conducted where the students can showcase their talents and skills. The students are encouraged to participate in these activities. The students of our college also participate in various competitions.

The senior student of my college are really helpful. They treat the juniors really well and help them with academics and encourage them to participate in various events. They help the juniors with books and other things required for academics.

The admission process to B.Tech degree involves clearing and getting a good score in either WBJEE (West Bengal joint entrance examination) or JEE Main. The WBJEE admission board decides a certain cutoff rank for selection of students in each department for each college. The students who fulfill this criteria have to go through the counseling process which requires the students to provide their desired branches and colleges. The students securing higher rank have higher chances of getting a seat in their desired branch and the desired college. This seat allotment process is then followed by the admission process. I appeared for WBJEE and secured a rank of 3525. I was called for the counseling process and I got a seat in CSE branch in Heritage Institute of Technology (the first preference in my choice list). Hence, I took admission in this college.

The faculty of my college is overall good. There are a few professors who are extremely good with the subjects and guide the students well. They help students to undertake various projects under them and also clear doubts in the subjects. The professors in the CSE department are quite knowledgeable in my college.
