Remarks
In short Presidency University provides a brilliant experience academically as well as in character building. A student gets his or her views becoming liberal with a global appeal. Great Bengalee minds were all made in Presidency once upon a time.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is good, especially in theoretical branches. I'm not much into experiments so can't comment in this regard. The interview is a standard one and depth of knowledge is tested. A few questions on the desired area of research should be expected as well.
Placement Experience
Being an institute of repute, people expect quality from former students, and the expectations are quite high from students. Landing a job thus has two sides loaded fully. Some departments provide limited-time opportunities. Stipend, if available, depends on the project.
College Events
Different cultural events are organized throughout the year. Departmental functions are also a norm. Colloquiums are held regularly to satiate the young minds and to give them a taste of what is happening around them.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is nominal. To complete a Ph.D. one needs to spend about 30000 rupees which are nominal compared to many institutes. If one has own fellowship then it is very much feasible. The fee is collected in 3-4 installments.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college helps in getting different scholarships such as Jayashree, Swami Vivekananda fellowship for research, etc. Apart from that, a student gets fellowships from the project they are enrolled in.
Campus Life
Laboratories are well equipped with state-of-the-art instruments. Inter-Departmental annual sports is a gala event. Extracurricular activities are always supported and encouraged. There is a standard ground with scopes of many sporting disciplines.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities got a facelift after renovations in Hindoo Hostel. There is another one at Rajarhat. As I'm not a hosteler, I can't talk much about internal systems and it's merits as well as demerits.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni association is one of the revered ones and needs no further mention as leading scientists are there. They can be reached anytime if one belongs to the same alma mater. Senior students are quite friendly and are like family.
Admission
After qualifying CSIR-UGC NET one applies for Ph.D. NET-LS is an absolute must for application. Then comes out a shortlist based on academics and NET rank and called upon candidates are interviewed. Finally, the merit list comes out.
Faculty
They are very very good. Most of them come from diversified high-quality institutes so the ambiance is very energetic. This is vital in imparting high-quality education. Overall one finds in oneself good company.
