Remarks
Studying in this college was by far the worst decision of my life. Towards the end of our course, we did not even have a proper class room. Sporadic classes were conducted in improvised halls and rooms. The services provided are highly degraded with respect to the money they ask for. The administration is very rude and do not speak well with you or your parents. The only good thing taht happened to me was leaving this college after four years. These four years affected my health and mental well being. I would never recommend any sane person to join this college and face adversities that I had in my time.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum on paper is great. There is a mix of theory and practical exams every semester. However, the college barely has facilities to help conduct practicals - many instruments are not working. The faculty is not great either. Exams happen biannually which are not to test your knowledge, but how much can you study from the past year question papers.
Placement Experience
The college calls several companies to hire their graduates. Some are good. It is alleged that a list of students to be recruited by the company is provided by the college and the interview is just a formality, this is partially confirmed by my experience. There is little scope for internship, which again is not of good quality. Overall I have had en extremely bad experience in the while process and internships do not come with stipends.
College Events
This is one good thing about the college. There are annual cultural fests of each department where there are a lot of programs. Additionally festivals like Durga Puja oversees a coming together of students from different departments to organise a celebratory event. Teacher's day is organised by the students.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is very expensive with respect to the quality of education provided. ?45000 per semester plus exam fees and additional charges. There are no facilities in the college - not even a proper canteen. The college is located in a remote place so external facilities are lacking as well. The administration does not leave any gap when it comes to collecting money - ?500 late fees even if you submit one day late, now they also have penalties for skipping classes. The whole thing is just a sham.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college does not provide any scholarship or loan facility. They are linked with punjab national bank and force you to open an account when you join, but it doesn't do you any good. In fact, I did a project in my 8th semester for which the college promised me to reimburse, but they refused later. Additionally they take a security deposit of ?20000 which they only return 2 years after you graduate - another shady technique to gather money.
Campus Life
There are no facilities for sports or indoor games - whatever there is, is for namesake. There is a sports team: football mostly, that participates in intra college competition. The ambience is bad and forces you to question your decision of joining the college.
Hostel Facilities
The college has no hostel facilities. You need to rent an apartment or share room in a mess, the facilities aren't great. It is a very remote place. You have problems with clean water and food. The dining shops are unclean and bad for health.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors are spread across several reputed companies, but thet is a result of their own hardwork and not the college. Most seniors work at MNCs like TCS and Wipro, where their knowledge comes of to be of no use. People hardly leave their fields to explore other areas, they go with the flow and some become good engineers.
Admission
Marks obtained in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam can be used to appear for the state counselling, where you get to select a list of colleges you wish to apply for. Based on your marks, you are allocated a college. There are 3-4 counselling rounds where your status can be upgraded based on filled seats after each round. Once your college is selected, you need to appear there with some stipulated fees (~50k).
Faculty
Faculty of the Instrumentation department is not great. Two professors out of the 10-12 are knowledgeable and can teach well. The remaining are there simply to collect salaries. They do not know their subjects well and speak bengali mostly, so for a non bengali speaker, it becomes difficult. Several professors are offensive towards students, which is a reason why there are several protests all year round in the college.
