SOE CUSAT

Campus politics does get serious some times specially recently and some people do get hurt. Classes are often suspended dues to political issues. Sometimes leads to loss of class hours and teach feel the need to take extra classes.

SOE follows its own CUSAT curriculum which makes it different from several other BTECH colleges across kerala that follows KTU curriculum. It comprises of 8 semesters. 2 semesters each year. Each semester has 4 to 6 subjects having 4 modules each and also 2 laboratory subjects. It is a very tight schedule but we still manage to find time to enjoy our time there. Each semester has two internal exams (giving a total 40 marks) and one final sem exam (60 marks) alltogether comprising 100 marks for the semester. There is a minimum 75% attendence requirement to be able to write the final sem exam. A 50% minimum mark is required to pass a subject. Supplementary exams must be cleared on time inorder to achieve enough credit to pass an year.

CUSAT is said to have a 70% placement guarantee. They do provide internship opportunities within the college itself for example the research facilities such as CITTIC but there are very few such positions available for students. But cusat does have several connections with companies outside and is able to hook up students with internships.

There are several Tech fests, Art fests etc organized by SOE, Marines dept, SLS dept, Instrumentation dept, DCA, etc. Students can enjoy these fests as well as learn new things. There are project exhibitions, DJ nights, Art exhibitions, etc.

Since CUSAT is a government college they do provide seats reserved for the low income family students such as those with SCST, OBC, etc reservations. These seats are free from any tution fee and have lower rates for hotel fee, exam fee, etc.

The college does have workshops and laboratories for all core subjects with equipments that are in great condition. There are several clubs for dance, music, sports, and several other extra curricular activities. There is an annual sports week for interdepartments as well as department matches.

I have not opted for hostel. But i have seen the condition and am sad to say that it is very poorly maintained. The students that have been born and raised here seem to be comfortable there but compared to the rentable houses available nearby within campus grounds itself i would never recommend staying there.

CUSAT does keep in touch with their succesful alumnis and have them brought as guests to talk in front of students to inspire them and give them motivation to pursue their dream career. Seniors are very helpful to juniors as they guide them with their projects and studies.

I got admission based on my CAT rank and under CGW (Children of Gulf Worker) reservation. My seat is in the all india merit category. Admission process was quite easy and mostly online. Only had to go to the college one day to fix my seat. All payments can be done by net banking.

The faculty of the college are very understanding and helpful. They help us find our potential and guide us through our college life. They are always there to help us whenever we ask. They even accept calls for clearing doubts after school hours. They are very dedicated to their work. Ofcourse there are a few teachers that dont really respect our ideas and give us a hard time but most of the staff are spectacular at what they do and we respect them.
