Government Engineering College is situated in a rural area of the Palakkad district in Kerala State of India. Nearest railway station is 30kms far from the college and nearest airport is 80kms far from the college that is the only negative mark of the college.
Course Curriculum Overview
Government Engineering College Palakkad is affiliated to KTU also known as APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. Which follows semester model carriculum. Which means there will be 8 semesters for B.tech graduates and 4 for M.tech graduates and so on. Each semester consist of 2 internal exams and 1 University exam. Both will be calculated for the final calculation of SGPA and CGPA.
Placement Experience
Government Engineering College Palakkad has a very good placement cell. They are very eager to find opportunities and pushing interested students to attend the drives any where if it is in the same college or not. They will give students classes about how to prepare and how to attend the placements. Only problem is Government Engineering College Palakkad is not near to the railway station or airport so in most of the cases placement companies choose somewhere else than college so students have to go to that places for attending the drive. And college does not offer any kind of internship program.
College Events
There are lots of events will take place in the Government Engineering College Palakkad. Events section will start with the Onam celebration. Onam is the yearly harvest festival in state Kerala. And then there will be college union election after that union inauguration, fresher's party, IEEE events, arts festival, annual sports meet, Sarang memorial inter engineering college flood light sevens football tournament with exciting prizes, Palakkad Moto Expo, Invento Annual Multifest, and so on finally College day will be the end of the event series in Government Engineering College Palakkad.
Fee Structure And Facilities
As the name suggest Government Engineering College Palakkad is an instituition under the Government of Kerala. Which provides very feasible fee structure for the merit students who got allotment after entrance exams. Only 8000 to 11000 indian rupees will be the fee for every students per year excluding food and accommodation when compared to other self financed colleges in Kerala it is only 10% of their fees
Fees and Financial Aid
Government Engineering College Palakkad will offer all of the reservation, scholarship and loan schemes for those who are eligible by both the government of India and Kerala. Loan facility will be offered to the students those who achieve minimum of 50% marks in accademics.
Campus Life
Government Engineering College Palakkad is very good with extracurricular activities like music,dance,sports etc. College itself have drama club, dance club, music band, cycling club, fashion club, film club, design and media clubs, sports club, and have an outdoor sports complex consist of volleyball,basketball,kho kho,handball, badminton courts, football ground, 200 meter track cricket pitch. Got several gold medals in different places like zonal and University meets. Have very good labs and weel structured workshops.
Hostel Facilities
Government Engineering College Palakkad have hostel facility for both men and women which provides food and accommodation with very reasonable fee. But only problem is that hostel facility is limited to few number of students others have to find out private hostels near the college there are lots of very good private hostels available near the college
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni of Government Engineering College Palakkad is very powerful and have a very good network and database. Head of the alumni association in staff are also alumnies of the college so they have very good knowledge about alumnies both studied with them or they taught. Alumni association conducts alumni meet every year. Every alumnies are eager to help the current students and by helping them to attend drives on their companies etc. Some of the alumnies have one of the best startup in India and they are also ready to help those who needful.
Admission
There is an entrance exam called KEAM. If students passed the exam based on the ranking they'll be allotted to different colleges in Kerala,India. I got allotted in the 4th phase of allotment process. There will be maximum of 4 or 5 allotment phases and one extra phase which is called spot allotment. Spot allotment is to fill the vaccant seats in every colleges. Spot allotments will be aranged in the college itself. All other phases are centralized by Kerala government.
Faculty
Faculty is very good now in Government Engineering College Palakkad. 70% of the members in faculty section are very highly advanced and experienced. They know how to teach and make students to become engineers. Only problem is left with remaining 30% because they will be guest lecturers and they will not have any experience. Due to government policy is very slow it will take time to replace them with permanent staff.
