The glorious four years in a 80 year old institution

As it's a government college, the campus is not too big and fancy but you actually don't need all these fancy campuses when you get a good environment and people around you. The professors are friendly and will always help you out. As the student strength is not too high, you get a family here. Every student know each other and stand up for them when in need.

The course curriculum is focused on building up a student to cope up with the competition in the corporate world and also encouraging students towards innovative research ideas. The exams are arranged in a systematic manner and they generally don't make the students go through a hectic schedule.

Every year a bunch of students get placed in various MNCs(such as TCS, Wipro, Vedanta, Infosys, TRL Krosaki etc. ) as well as startups. It's true for all the three streams(Ceramic technology, Computer science and engineering, Information technology). The training and placement officer of the institution is very effective in his work and plays a vital role in making this happen.

Starting from the beginning of the year, the following events are organised in the college: 1) SARASWATI PUJA- Worshipping goddess Saraswati has always been a tradition in any educational institute of West Bengal. It goes same for us. 2) KARMATEK(annual technical fest)- This is the one of the most awaited festivals of our college. The students from any college or even school can participate in this event as being a tech nerd doesn't require any college degree. Events that are organised here are divided into groups like ROBOTICS, GAMING, CODING, OTHERS which contain many more sub groups. During this festival, various seminars are also arranged on new and emerging technologies. 3)JAGRITI(annual cultural fest)- This is the largest festival is our college which lasts for 2 to 3 days. This is a relief for everyone amidst the struggle to build our careers. This includes various cultural events by our college students as well as renowned artists from all over India. 4) ALUMNI MEET- Every year the college and the respected alumni arrange for an annual alumni meet where the alumni of our college come and motivate the future generation to achieve success in life. It's accompanied by a small chain cultural of cultural events performed by the current students. 5) BISHWAKARMA PUJA- Bengalis consider Lord Bishwakarma as the god of engineers. So, it's a must for us as engineering students to worship him. It's just a simple event where pujo is done and bhog is distributed among everyone. 6) AAGHAZ(Fresher's party)- This is just like any other Fresher's party organised for the new admissions.

As it's a government college the fees structure is very much feasible by everyone. Also there is concession of fees for those who are economically weak. They can apply for the concession going through the respective procedure. The semester fees for the Ceramic technology department is 3000 INR Computer science and technology department is 6000 INR Information technology department is 12000 INR

There is a concession in fees depending upon the economic condition and merit of the student. There are two categories half-free and full-free. This concession is given to selected students only and the right to provide it is solely reserved by the college authority. One can learn in deep about this from the academic section of the college.

Every student is treated same irrespective of their caste, creed, sex or religion. There is no active political body in the college. A non political student's welfare association is present to tackle with the difficulties if any student faces such.

A newly built hostel is available for the students(boys only) with spacious rooms and all other amenities required. Also, students can opt for PGs. There are many PGs around the college at a reasonable rate.

Alumni network is very strong and this is the best reason for which one should take admission in this college. They are very helpful in making their juniors successful in their future. This goes true for all the three streams of our college. Even some of the professors of our college are our alumni.

Got a decent rank in WBJEE-2016 and opted for the IT department in Government college of engineering and ceramic technology. The future world is going to be the era of computers, so I wanted to pursue my career in the field of computer science. Although I would have got an admission in CSE department of other colleges, I chose this college over others as it is a heritage college and one of the oldest engineering institutes.

Every faculty of the college are highly qualified and has the ability to provide proper education to the students in the respective fields. But, some of them lack the interest in making students learn. It's true that all five fingers of the hand are not same. So, overall faculty and staff are good here.
