Remarks

The college is good except for a few things that need to change. The teachers should get more involved in the class. The assignments/projects given to us should encourage creative thinking. The question patern should change.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The course is really interesting. All the major classics are covered and it is divided according to the different ages. But yes, they conveniently skip the beginning two periods which is very important while cracking the research entrances. In my course, the schedule is pretty relaxed. We never have hectic days. The exam structure is purely theory based and no emphasis is put on critical thinking and creativity. There's a set pattern of questions and also the questions are usually repeated after every two or three years. A basic preparation can fetch a person 60 - 70 marks.

Placement Experience

1.5

There is no placement opportunity. BHU mainly focuses on research. So, no companies are called in to take up graduates/post-graduates for a good paying job. Mostly all the students are automatically bent towards academia and research.

College Events

2

Janmashtami, Saraswati Puja and Founder's Day is celebrated on the same day, Sanskriti (Annual cultural fest of my faculty), Spandan (Inter faculty cultural fest) Spandan is celebrated on a big scale and sometimes celebrities are called too.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is very very feasible as it is a central university. It's really cheap. For two semesters, your average free structure is around 5000 INR which is very reasonable when you're from a weak financial background.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are many schemes like 'Earn while you learn' for students who come from financially weak households. Scholarships are also provided to meritorious students. There's no provision for any kind of loans through the University (as far as I know).

Campus Life

2.5

Workshops are conducted every now and then and many eminent personalities from all over the world come for such workshops and seminars. There are many clubs run by students like literary club, photography club, quiz club etc. Tolerance regarding any other religion except Hinduism is a bit low.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are really nice to the juniors. The campus had strict rules against ragging and hence there is no kind of ragging or bullying of any kind between juniors and seniors. Many of my family members are the alumni of the institution. They're always impressed with the university and they have no complaints against it's administration or the quality of education. My interaction with my seniors and alumnis have always yielded in a positive growth.

Admission

I was studying science (PCMB) in 12th. My father wanted me to pursue a career in medicine and made me join a coaching too. While attending the classes in the coaching, I realized that I am not good at Physics and chemistry and only two subjects interested me; biology and english. I was always the highest scorer in English in class and I loved reading and writing. English became my escape mechanism because I didn't have the courage to tell my father that I didn't want to pursue medical.

Faculty

2

The teachers have a lot of qualifications but somehow the teaching quality is not that great. Probably because the teachers are two lazy to teach the same things over and over again. They're very bookish in their attitude.

Placement Experience:

The placement here at Sharda was too good. Students start attending the Placement interviews and calls from the last semester. I was personally made into 4 companies and 4 offer letters were offered to me. The average package is 3.8 lakhs per annum and highest was about 11 lakhs. There is 100% placement in every dept. but it depends on students if they want to attend or not. After getting the degree i studied for my PhD entrace and now i am working.

In my college the teaching methods is quie good for me and in my perspective the frequency and difficulty levels of exam is not excessive.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Since I wanted to become an English Professor, the course really helped me a lot in getting an insight into English Literature. The professors are very encouraging. The curriculum not only relies on the traditional method of teaching but also various co curricular activities are conducted to prepare the students for the real world. Each student is given an opportunity to prove herself. As the exams are conducted annually we get a lot of time to prepare accordingly.

Overall, I can say that my experience of the college for postgraduate degree is good as of now. Although the course is good, but, I would want more focus to be put on practical learning because after all, it is a practical subject. Other than that, I am content with the facilities provided by the college. I was very interested in the subject and love it personally, so it is a great experience for me.
