Remarks
Academics is excellent. Teachers are very friendly. Campus life is awesome. Extracurricular activities are good. But the student body doesn't have a lot of power. There is no ragging or politics among the students.
Entrance Preview
I took the JIPMER entrance exam. On getting selected I had no doubt in mind as this was where I wanted to if not in AIIMS. You need to clear the JIPMER entrance exam which has MCQs only.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is based on that outlined by the MCI. There is scope for research and JIPMER has its own research programme for undergraduates which goes by the name "GJSTRAUSS" and the college runs a renowned research journal. Students get a lot of hands-on exposure.
Internships Opportunities
Yes. The college provides internship and the monthly stipend is Rs.15120 per month. Interns do get to learn a lot as they are posted in all major and subjects during the 1 year of internship. But interns need to work a lot and many a time they have to carry blood samples for investigations. The only drawback is that they are not directly a part of the consulting team in the major departments. But interns get to do a lot of medical procedures and assist minor surgeries.
Placement Experience
Placements are excellent. JIPMER degree is recognized everywhere and you are sure to get a job anywhere you apply after getting an undergraduate and postgraduate degree from JIPMER. There are a fixed number of seats reserved in the postgraduate course for those who graduated from JIPMER
College Events
JIPMER has an annual intercollege fest called SPANDAN. Colleges from all fields all over the country take part. Colleges from the north which take part include AIIMS, AFMC etc. It is one of the biggest medical college fest in South India. Apart from this, Holi is celebrated every year with a cultural evening and colours in the morning. Diwali, Saraswati pooja, Durga pooja, Christmas are all celebrated. Interclass culturals and sports events are held every year.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees are negligible.Academic fees- Rs.2200 per yearHostel fees- 500 pmEstablishment fees- Rs.6000 per yearIt is very feasible and is not a burden at all. There are multiple options for mess. The mess fees is 2280 per month. Books have to be bought by the students. Students need to buy their own aprons and stethoscopes when required.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are no scholarships provided by the college and given that the fees are minimal, students do not require any scholarship
Campus Life
The male:female ratio is almost 1:1. Students from all over the country from a part of the student community. We have a hostel day separately for girls and boys hostels. Students of all religions and all states form a part and there is absolutely no discrimination here. There is an elected students' body called the JIPMER students association (JSA) which conducts Spandan and caters to the needs of students forming a bridge connecting the students to the administration. Campus life is excellent. Girls have a curfew time of 11 pm which is not really followed. Boys do not have any curfew time.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are excellent. The hostel has been newly constructed. Double rooms are spacious but single rooms are relatively small. The hostel has 2 TV rooms with a LCD TV in each of them. There are 5 floors with 2 reading areas and a reading room on each floor. The hostel complex has 2 basketball courts too. The toilets in the hostel are clean and are cleaned everyday.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors play a very important role as they help us in all aspects especially academics. They help in everything provided you develop a good relation with them. The Alumni association helps by giving away awards to students who excel in academics and extra curricular activities.
Exam Structure
There is a university exam at the end of each academic year based on which students are promoted to the next academic year. There are a number of internal exams in each subject. We had to work hard before the exams but the days following the exams were very chilled out. Practical and clinical exams are also conducted regularly.
Faculty
The faculty are highly qualified and show special interest in teaching their students. The teacher:student ratio is good so the teacher is able to focus on each student and make sure that they take home everything that the teacher teaches. They even take bedside classes by the side of the patient and the patients here are very cooperative.
