Remarks

Our university is good in general, but as a central university, I think it is not up to the mark. 1st of all, it needs to enrich its library's content. Again as a science student I will say it needs to focus more in expermental work, which is lacking, may be due to lack of financial support.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course curriculum is totally based upon skill development through practical and theoretical classes. It has essense of everything that makes a professional. It taught me lots of things, it has helped me imprymy communication skills and helped me bag myself a job this year. There is always visits to hotel and workshops organised to enhance our skills.

Placement Experience

2.5

Well some companies do come for placement but that is very few times. Actually maximum students from our department choose to go for phd and research work. And every batch has a good no. of students those get jrf and do phd in well khown institutes. Like I am in m.sc. and till in our batch 5 students got jrf and are preparing for phd in institutes

College Events

4.5

Our department do organise various national level seminars. Like recently we had a Natonal Seminar on "Advancement of Biology in 21st century", scientists came from different corners of the nation and gave lecture. Some students also participated. Besides that department also invites several scientists for lecture and conduct seminar, round the year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Well I am from a very middle class family and the fee structure is feasible. I'm a general cast student, for b.sc. admission it charges near ?6000 at beginning and for the next 2 years charges near ?3000. And for sem exam registration it charges ?310. The structure is similar for master degree as well but slightly higher for lab regarding charges. Other than these hostel charges are also very feasible, between ?350 to ?600 every month, depending upon the room. Payments are done online, we have a separate portal for that. And yes, college do provide traparency in fee btreckdown.

Fees and Financial Aid

Our college does have a scholarship, depending upon the marks obtained. Which I know very less. I do avail a scholarship i.e; Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means, which is a west bengal govt. scholarship. To avail that we had to apply for scholarship in its official portal named svmcm.wbhed.gov.in. And students are selected on the basis of marks obtained in 12th standard and b.sc.(if graduated).

Campus Life

2.5

My campus life is very good here. And there is no gender biasness, so, almost equal gender ratio. Students from different corners of India as well as from other nations come here. So, we have a good diversity. University conducts several cultural activities time to time, which are very mind refreshing. Regarding politics, we don't have much political disturbance in the campus. But there are some political groups, which by my opinion is required for proper balance and transparency between administration and students.

Hostel Facilities

4

No, But there are three hostels in my college which is one girls'and two boys hostel. One is for first years and 2nd one is for senior year students. Hostel rooms are three sharing and two sharing. Cost is same for all of them. Drinking water and mess is inside the college itself. First aid box and other indoor games are also available in hostel.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors are very helpful. Many times they helped me regarding planing my next steps. As I stay in hostel, I have a good network with my seniors. Many of them are doing their research abroad. They help us a lot.

Admission

I took admission in this university during my graduation.Intrested students are to apply for the admission and choose the subject. Students are selected on the basis of marks of 12th standard. I opted zoology because I loved reading biology then. I choosed visva bharati because obviously it's a central unversity and zoolgy department here is really near perfect for a zoology lover like me. It has such a nice faculties. And of course it is also close to my residents.

Faculty

4

Faculties of this College are the most supportive, I would say. Number of lectures can be 40-45 per subject. Average age of professors would be 47-49. Some of the professors have their doctorate with some, while some have completed their masters. Everyone of them are expert in their particular subject as well as this course subjects are kind of similar, so one professor can teach two subjects as well. They all are certified through NET and some are working on contract.

Placement Experience:

Actually this is a general degree University , so I must mention that placement facalities are not so good. But yes , Job Fair is organised in University by some external agencies which offer jobs varying 2-2.5 lakhs per annum . But in the university most of the students do not accept that jobs. Half of the students are more interested on the higher studies. So ahet completing the fourth semester they prepare for PhD. And the another half are preparing for central government sponsored exams like CGL, CHSL, RRB, SBI , IBPS, LIC etc. University has a significant number of students who have qualified for Government Competitive exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My decision to choose this course depended on the fact that this course provides you with the opportunity to get various jobs in the industries with a high lpa. But this college does not help much in that aspect. All I had to do was myself. It is my humble opinion that the institution should improve its guidance in the area of its teaching methods. The exams were twice a year and were quite difficult on their own.

Biotechnology is a highly demanding course in today's world. The syllabus for this course is mostly around bookish knowledge and you have to gather outside knowledge on your own. There must be an internship for every student arranged by department itself in various other institues or labs for practical work experience.
